I have lived in Franklin for almost two years and I have never shopped at Peebles or Peoples because their prices are a little high for my purse, even the sale items are pricey.
I know we all like to save a buck, so I do shop at Walmart, Target and occasionally Kmart, and since we do not have a super Walmart or super anything I go to Sylva or Clayton to spend my $$. I would much rather spend it where I live, I love it up here and would like to support the economy. There was some concern about the Mom & Pop stores, well I'm sure the people who shop there now will continue to do the same even if there is a super store built. I understand that this used to be a small community but that's changed and I say just go with change it can be good for everyone.
I bet we'd have fewer groceries in town if Walmart brings that supercenter here.

Look at what Lowes did to the smaller lumber yards & appliance stores in town. Was it good??

I think the Wal Mart that we have is fine. I do all my grocery shopping at Bi-Lo because their prices are actually cheaper than The Wal Marts in Sylva or Clayton, Ga. The current Wal Mart has just about everything that the Super Centers have, just less of it.

Most of the people that are FOR the new Wal Mart are transplanted Floridians, I say , "let's listen to the townsfolk, they were here first"! This town is a nice small town and I, for one, would like to see it stay that way.

BTW, I am also a transplant.(Texan, by way of Florida)

It's only a matter of time in Franklin. What Wal-Mart wants, Wal-Mart gets.
Don't you mean what the people who cram the Walmart parking lots (even at odd ours in the morning) gets what it wants? Don't like it don't shop there.

wal-mart sells their stuff for such low low prices because they are a gigantic corporation. And when you can buy in bulk you can sell for less!

I believe every business is concerned about making a "dollar". A dollar is not almighty; it's simply a piece of legal paper to be exchanged for something more valuable than paper. If more business could forget about their own greed and instead stop charging ridiculous prices for their junk then any business could compete with Wal-mart.
It's nonsense to criticize Wal-mart for providing practically the 'same darn thing' at half the price as a Mom and Pop shop. It's slightly comical too.

ingles beats bilos prices HANDS DOWN. And for walmart, weaverville has too many floridians and others who were against them coming just because of they wanted to preserve the small town charm of weaverville. Well I got news for you people who wants to preserve towns from big box stores and the like, towns are growing with or without the stores there. Same there with franklin.
