Parole setting free long-term inmates

Full story: Asheville Citizen-Times

The sweetness of Betty Norton Young's mountain accent does little to reveal the tragedy she has endured for 30 years.

I sure do not see the sentence being carried out to fit the crime. What a shame this person is going free after committing such a horrible crime to an innocent family and a civilized public
How do you no that he was the one? He might be serving time for something. That somebody else done.

I used to work for NC Probation and Parole and hated every minute of it. I felt ashamed every day that I went to work because I was working for the biggest lie told to the state. Probation/Parole is nothing more than a a sugar coated, real good-feel good program. However, it isn't the officers' fault. The fault lies in Raleigh with pie faced Robert Guy (director of Probation/Parole) and his pea brained cronies. It also lies with the parole board members who are jockying for position to be the first in line to kiss the governor's tail.
This is a group of people who won't listen to reason. They want to coddle the offender and victimize victims even more. They come out with their "we're tough on crime B.S." but it's all just a big, fat, stinking lie.
For instance, lets say Joe Thug breaks into your home and steals your most prized possessions. He gets caught, goes to court and gets put on probation. Joe Thug has to commit NUMEROUS violations before the officer is allowed to take arrest him and take him back to court. If he pees hot on a drug test, they have to set him up for drug treatment instead of locking his butt up where it needed to be in the first place. Then, there is Intensive Probation...Oh now thats scary. You do your time in the comforts of your living room. You do have a curfew to abide by, and a Probation Officer or Surveillance Officer may come to check on you at any given time, but as soon as they check on you, you're pretty much free to leave to go out and break in more houses. Missed curfews don't mean anything. The P.O. isn't going to do anything until you have about 20 or so, pee hot and fail to pay your fines. They do everything they can to keep from putting the bad guy in jail. Like I said, it isn't necessarily the officers' fault. That directive came down from the infinate wisdom of Raleigh. Half the time, when the bad guy does go back to court, many of these weak kneed judges continue them on probation. God forbid if you have a parole violator. A Probation/Parole officer cannot arrest a parolee for anything unless the parole commission gives the officer permission. Our corrections system, both Division of Prisons and Probation/Parole (Community Corrections) has been broken for a long time and is in need of an overhaul from the top down. It is high time that we, as law abiding citizens demand that tougher measures be taken.

Do you know how this person Lloyd is doing now that he has been released?

Viki,
NO we haven't talked with two hoodlums that have turned our lives upside down for the last 30 years. We are good people, we could have gone to civil court and taken Hyatts home and property, but no we didn't because of his kids they could not help what their father had done, and they didn't deserve to be punished as well by losing their home.
The two scum bags murdered Wayne, Gerald, and Billy. Did you ever read the autopsy report? Did you go to the funeral home and see the Three coffins? We never got to say good bye, they were buried in the body bags. How do you know that you will be safe? If they had cared for their families they would not have made the choice to Murder 3 young men hurry home pack and flee the state? Yes God is in our lives we pray daily the bible says to forgive and we do forgive them "But we do not have to Forget what they did to these familys" Ands the state of NORTH CAROLINA PRISON SYSTEM will not let us forget. and I hope they rot in hell.
One of the 10 commandments is thou shalt not kill.
we will have justice when they meet their maker.
Ray may be born again "but everyone finds God in prison".But the three Gentlemen are still dead.
We also believe you reap what you sow. we WIll protect our families anyway we have to since the North Carolina Prison doesn't believe in keeping 3 time murderers behind bars.

YOU MUST BE A CRIMINAL RELEASED FROM PRISON OR ARE YOU AS STUPID AS YOU SOUND!!!!!!!!!!
MY BROTHER AND TWO OF HIS FRIENDS WERE MURDERED THE TWO MEN UP FOR PAROLE THIS YEAR WERE GIVEN 3 LIFE SENTENCES. SO DO YOU THINK THIS IS JUSTICE THEY HAVENT EVEN SERVED HALF THE TIME.
HOW BAD WAS IT THEY ALMOST COULD NOT TELL THAT IT WAS MY BROTHER STABBED REPEATEDLY CASTRATED BEATEN WITH A CROW BAR AND THROWN IN A RIVER AND YOU THINK THEY SHOULD BE SET FREE??????????
MAYBE YOU ARE AS STUPID AS YOU SOUND!
HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF IT WAS YOUR BROTHER OR SON OR HUSBAND OR WIFE?
I am really sorry about your brother...I don't know if you will read this, but I agree with you about them being released. They shouldn't be. My Dad was one of the guys that William bragged to about the murders. The day he found out about him being released was hard. That was the day I found out about everything that happened. So, like I said before, I am sorry for your loss.

I would like to say that the NC Dept of Corrections is messed up! What about those people in the prison system here that have been convicted of a serious crime but have evidence backing up their innocence? There are innocent people that are incarcerated, due to having lousy representation. I know. I have a friend in this position. Despite having no previous arrest record, no infractions while in prison, and having taken all available classes the prison system offered, he has been denied parole for several years now. Is it right to keep him imprisoned because he doesn't have enough money to hire a lawyer for a re-trial? This isn't justice. This is a waste of several years of an innocent man's life. NC Dept of Corr. is NO model to follow!!
Look at what the trial of the two men that were denied the dna that would have found them not guilty. The DA did that and he is in hot water. I have no doubt that there are many people in prison that were set up by crooked DA's and lawyers.
