I don't think he did it. It doesn't make sense. Unless the kid is a psychopath, he couldn't have done it. My theory is that the two were dating. Maybe the girl found out she was pregnant. Her family didn't like it. Someone else (related to the family somehow) killed her, and the boy stumbled upon the scene while trying to visit her. The truth will come out soon enough. That letter that came out today was probably closer to the truth.

and also, the girl knew Karate. I don't want to assume anything about her skills, but could she not kick a 17 year old violin player's butt? Isn't that what they teach in Karate? Self defense and attacks.

Ask the Family - Apparently you are a close friend or family member of the accused... You must also be a dumba$$. Don't you think that the autopsy would have revealed a pregnancy? She knew karate?... The "violinist" is 6'1 almost 180lbs and he had a knife! Yeah... she was 5'4 and maybe 110lbs, what was she going to do, kick his shins?
For his sake, I hope he didn't do it, but the report he gave about why he snuck in through the window, how a man wearing a mask made him grab the knife after the attack to put his prints on the weapon... sounds pretty suspect to me. Why didn't he immediately let the police know he was there? Also, how did details that only the police find during their investigation come up when this "anonymous" letter ditributed by his family came out? It detailed all of the events leading up to the murder?
Stop giving this kid excuses and trying to blur the lines. And for Gods sake don't try and play the race card. That is an old and tired excuse that frankly everyone is sick of hearing!

Remember he was only 16, just witness one of his best friends(RIP)murdered in a way a do not want to imagine. THINK FOR A MINUTE, IF WOULD HAVE CALLED POLICE HE WOULD STILL BE THE PRIMARY SUSPECT. HE WAS FRAME AND DONT HAVE MONEY FROM A GOOD LAWYER TO PROVE HIS INNOCENTS.

Ive had a big change of mind...The Portsmouth PD is the greatest law enforcement agency ever and its officers/detectives absolutely rule. I have no doubt they arrested the right person and he will be justly punished on this earth and then rot in hell. I regret ever saying a bad word about the police and wish deep down I wasnt half retarded...then I too could fight crime and evil instead of being a pain in the rear-end. GO PPD!!!!

Shame on all of you for what you are saying. I didn't know that we as people convict a child who has not yet been to trial. I hope that this talented young man, who has more intellect and creativness then most of you have portaied in this blog. For all of those who are judging because he is a black kid, Ask yourself if it were are white high school football quarterback would you be saying the same thing. All I know is that he has a great lawyer as you will soon find out. And justice will be served. So all of you that say he needs to be fried and shot up. God help you!!! When he comes out at innocent kharma is a wonderful thing.

How do you know that that girl didn't have a secret she was hiding. I for one hope that society won't convict a bright kid. Imagine your child in his shoes. You live in Carolina so you really have no say so in Va. The family is just looking for an easy target. If you knew this boy your views would change. Sorry and if it was a black girl, and a white boy it would have already been swept under the rug. I am white and I still believe that this young man is being set up.

You really think that "society won't convict a bright kid"?! You seem so...young! I could be wrong, but I doubt it. He was not arrested because he was an easy target. If that were the case, an arrest would have been made LONG AGO. Knowing him would probably not change anyone's view of him. People hide who they really are ALL OF THE TIME. It's unbelievable how good some people are at doing just that.
