Our terrible Holiday shopping experience at Polly’s grocery in Chelsea

My fiancée and I entered Polly's Grocery in Chelsea the evening of Saturday 12/17/11, at approximately 7:30pm.

I picked up some cut flowers, plastic food containers & chocolate chip cookie dough. My fiancée bought 2 half gallons of orange juice & sugar cookie dough. During her shopping, my fiancée used the restroom and temporarily placed the OJ in a cooler adjacent to the restroom (at this point, we had not yet picked out our cookie dough).

We went to separate checkouts and she was waiting for me at the end of the cashier's isle I was in. We then proceeded to the exit at the front of the store.

This is the point when our evening turned ugly. Near the exit waited a supposed manager and approximately 5 store employees. My fiancée was told to stop and was immediately accused of stealing merchandise. She was asked what she did in the restroom, asked if & where she was concealing stolen merchandise and was told the bottoms of her pants looked as if she had something hidden in them (a ridiculous observation & accusation).

To try to end this situation, my fiancée pulled up the bottoms of her pants to show that she wasn't a thief, but even this did not end the accusations, questioning & terrible looks we were being given. At this point, I took my fiancée by the hand (she was becoming very emotionally upset - she was hurt) and walked through the group of employees that were blocking the door.

At no point during this incident did this "manager" ask for our receipt, ask to see what was in our bags, or give any reasoning for her outrageous accusations. Furthermore, no apology or any sympathy as to the store's mistake and false accusations was given whatsoever.

Even as we got to our car, I was still entirely shocked at how we were treated, and my fiancée was in tears. She is a very kind and loving person and anyone with any sense would know she isn't a thief. Our evening had been very nice - we had been shopping all day and had just ate dinner at here in Chelsea. I never would have thought we would be treated this way in a grocery store that my family has been supporting for nearly 20 years.

I'm extremely appalled at Polly's of Chelsea. My family and I will never step foot in any of Polly's locations ever again. Furthermore, I will advise my friends, colleagues and fellow members of the community to do the same. Our hard earned money is much better spent in establishments that support and respect their customers, rather than places that treat loyal customers with such disrespect.
