This truly doesn't make sense. Does the state pay overtime so the work crews can go out on jobs? Now local users of these services must pay full price for help. Sounds like a political maneuver to me.

Cut Public Works, close Camp Manistique. This clearly is in direct contradiction to the new Michigan Prison Entry Program. This program has currently cost the Michigan Tax Payer $20 million dollars to date. Working 8 hours a day completing tasks, is more than MPRI can teach in a 60 day program at Parnell Correctional Facility. The MDOC continues to put all its eggs in one basket with MPRI, and after many millions of dollars of later, it will be discontinued like the Public Works Program. One critical thing that is essential for MPRI to succeed, and that is called jobs. Michigan leads the country in unemployment (7.2 %), Michigan is also the only State in the Union with negative economic growth. People who are honest can't even get a job, who is going to hire a convicted felon. Ask yourselfs, why is it that no new businesses want to come to Michigan? I can sum it up in three words: Department of Enviromental Quality (DEQ). You need a permit to get a permit to build a outhouse.

Yeap, notice they are not getting rid of Dept. of Treasury, Agriculture, Education, Health and Human Services, MIOSHA, and other Depts. that have expensive State Employees who do not generate revenue. Over 45,000 of them.

Makes sense to me. Feds won't let them close a costly prison, so they close a costly work camp. Oops, now the local people won't be able to take advantage of services paid for by the state to take care of their needs. I feel sorry for the poor staff at the camp who will now have to move or be out of a job! Oh well, stuff happens! Heaven forbid if they have to raise state taxes to keep this program at the level it was. That would be horrible. Now the state won't have to pay overtime in the prisons that these staff members go to to cover the jobs that were cut to save money.

Bottom line is Yoopers need to learn to work and they should move to get a job. The U.P. is a wasteland, the arm pit of the world!
