Half-way houses, sober houses, and maybe next a pot shop ???
Section 8 with absentee landlords who just care about being paid their month's rent....Overcrowding of apartments, illegal apartments still exist.....That's where a neighborhood crime watch would be so beneficial to Everett .... Think about it...

Ya but Malden has had 16 shootings in 3 years and about 9 stabbings. Four of those shootings were fatal. I have a beautiful home in Malden that I can't sell and have put over $150,000 into it. What am I going to do????

Everyone go to the next crime meeting on December 18th at 6 pm at the police station. Let's get the word out. Maybe a facebook page for community news or a Patch site like many other communities have? We need to connect with one another again.

I heard they are going to hire at least 6 more cops. Please say it's true. My husband and I are over 55. We are afraid. We have a nice police officer in our neighborhood but unfortunately he is on suspension right now. I wish they would return him to work. He has a great record. He made a mistake. His mother died and he just got married and had a baby before that. He deserves another chance. We love him.

Education is the key to our problems: not hate, racism and sexism, which all stem from ignorance and fear. yes, there are people of ALL colors, including WHITE, who don't care, who don't respect themselves or others. There are problems with too many bars in Everett, attracting people from all over who leave the bars drunk, are doing drugs and causing all sorts of problems in the city. "Everett Resident" is on the right track. It takes a community effort with outreach to people in all our different ethnic communities who do care! We are all from immigrants unless you are a Native American or African-American from the slavery days. So don't just complain, get involved. Yes, our ELECTED officals have to do the right thing for the city, but some won't unless we are involved. And there shouldn't be illegal boarding houses. Make all the 'illegals' legal so they pay for all the stuff that we have to, so they aren't living in fear. There are solutions.
ANd a casino in the city is the LAST thing we need. We are overcrowded, too much traffic already, too many bars...do we need more problems? With a casino always ccomes drugs, prostitution (human trafficking possibilities) drunk driving, people losing monet they DON'T have... I mean really??? This is the best we can do in a city with so much POTENTIAL that has been mismanaged for so many years??? We are next to Boston!!! Make a park!
Save the environment. Bring in good businesses.

Going to those meetings are a waste of time. The police are part of the problem. They are in denial just like the mayor is. The mayor would have you think everything is wonderful, and it's not.

After the shooting...did you hear about the carjacking? Better yet, did you hear that Walgreens was robbed at 4:00AM with a shot gun?

The police are in denial and are told to sweep everything under the rug. It's city government that people need to be more involved with...not the police.

The mayor wants you at those monthly meetings to make it look like something is getting done. What good are those meetings if crime is on the rise? We are spending millions on pretty parks and flowers and ignoring the fact we have a serious safety problem in the city.

People need to inundate the MAYORS OFFICE and DEMAND accountability for our safety. Inundate your city councilors and demand they vote for NOTHING until we see more progress on keeping the city safe. More police presence...more money from city government. People, we spent 9 million dollars this year alone on construction projects. WE paid for that. Give me a break, and who do you think benefits and pads their pockets on construction jobs?? Think about it.

Why are so many people saying they are moving or just getting out? Why are you being intimidated by these cruel useless individuals. The problem is we have 24/7 stores and 24/7 barber shops?? What the hell is that all about? We know people are not getting their hair cut at 4:00AM. DEMAND our elected officials to stop all these 24 hour stores and stop the bars!! We have too many.

When will ONE elected official step up to the damn plate and demand this to stop? How can you people vote for these lazyasses that just spend our money and do not take care of us. Someone has to make the sacrifice and have the nerve to go up against the mayor of this city. He's the one that's ruining this city both financially and he cares less about our safety.

AGREE: and others - please note - the crime prevention meetings at the police station are the 3rd Tuesday of every month and they start at
7 PM (not 6 PM)....

It is interesting that people are upset now and vow to come to these meetings - but .... a few weeks go by and they don't bother to attend.

So it's 7 PM on Dec. 18th .....

So there were eyewitnesses to this crime? Why haven't I heard a description If they are still in the loose. Is that too un-PC to do? You know..."two caucasian males fled the scene..." Gang activity?? Just say what the hell they are regardless of what they are.

I agree, I live very close to where this happened and I have heard nothing, I am a pretty secure person but couldnt help having a hard time sleeping last night, those shots were so loud that I actually ducked in my house while I was cooking. When I looked out my window I could see police lights coming from every direction but I could not see what happened but knew without doubt that the sound was shots without doubt. I heard many stories but never heard any description, if there really was 2 that fled the scene, where they could possibly have went (meaning what direction they went or if they were still out there or in custody. I dont like feeling unsure or uncomfortable in my home. I wish they used that stupid auto phone to give us in the area an update so that we could ease our minds somewhat.

God that must have been so scary. I live on the other side of the city but I can imagine that it could happen here too. I'm sure you would like to have a description of the shooters. I just don't understand that omission.

Daisy, I agree with your idea that we need to inundate the mayor's office with concerns. I also agree with the individual who said something about starting a watch group, maybe with an online component - not sure if that was this comment thread or another one. A Patch website, while certainly not a cure-all, would be helpful. Is anyone else familiar with those? I have sent a recommendation to them on their "contact us" / "suggest a community" function.

Crime prevention meeting is an excellant way to get your feelings out regarding the police or any other crime related problem Whomever said that "Mayor DiMaria wants the people to go to the meetings" is totally wrong because he does not have the descency (sp) go himself. Sgt. Larry Jedrey runs the meetings and is open and honest about everything. Try going. We need more people to help out with the problems instead of just complaining all the time.

You don't like Everett? Then get the hell out. Take pride in your city, damn. Half of you don't even know what you are talking about. I've lived in Everett my whole life and I always feel safe. Maybe you guys just need to sack up.

I've lived here my whole life too. I used to feel safe but no longer do. I never wanted to have to alarm my house but recently did. I never wanted to own a gun but now do (legally). Raised my kids here but would advise them not to raise theirs. Break-ins robberies, shootings, gangs, etc. if you feel as safe as you ever did, you are a fool. Leave you say? Will do as soon as we can sell our house for enough to buy elsewhere. That probably won't ever happen though due to all the crime noted above.
