Would anyone know if you need a permit to build a 10ft x 12 ft screen house in your own back yard.
It would be built of 4x4 PT footing and corner post and mid post. Also a roof with 2x6 and 1/2 inch plywood with shingles. The walls would be mostly screen from top to bottom and a 36x80in wood screen door. This would be a very simple screen house mostly all 4 walls would be screen.

I looked on the everett web page nothing found in regards to building a back yard screen house.

Any help appreciated

IMHO, if the design isn't mentioned it's not allowed to be constructed. Government loves to ban things.

In any case you will need a permit to pay $$$ to Government. They also want a diagram of what you will build and where it will be located to ensure setbacks are adhered to and drainage won't be impacted etc. Also to make sure the fire department can fight a fire in the building and the house. If you will incorporate electricity, plumbing, windows, roof gutters, etc they will want to know why and why not. You know smoke and MO detectors and of course sprinklers.

Government is out of control.

Good luck!

This is a screen house built in my back yard not attached to any structure and will be all screen walls just like a screen house you buy at the big lots stores. It is not for living in and will be no water or electricity just a screen house made out of wood. I have one now and its a pain to put up and take down every year. One I bought at big lots. The canopy and screen last about 2 years and have to buy a new one for next year. About as much as a new complete screen house. So I thought building one out of Pressure treated wood would be much better all around. You post seem to be more directed to a living structure. An Everett Licensed carpenter checked it out and you can build a 120 sq ft a 12x10 structure without any permit and stay within the zoning laws of everett. I just was asking in case he his info was not correct. Anyone else have any more valid info on building this 10x12 which I figured would cost about $1500 or less in materials.

thanks

I would go to City Hall to the Permits Department to make sure, otherwise they will make you tear it down!

As long as the Mayor didn't need permits to build a house, you shouldn't need it for a screen house

General Mass State rule is ...if you put it on those four cornered cement blocks...and don't install a foundation, it's ok. If you want to put in a foundation, it's a building......you have to go to City Hall and get a list of rules. They are helpful to residents in City Hall...a smaller shed or small building increases the value of the property [more taxes for the city}
