John Hanlon was a good mayor and started funding the retirement pension fund which was ignored by the former mayor for years. Also, he was an honest mayor and when he was defeated and left office he left a surplus of close to 8 million dollars which has been squandered by the present mayor. If Hanlon was still the mayor we wouldn't have the mess were are in now. Hanlon will make an excellent State Representative and should have been elected in 2010 but there was an absentee ballot scandal during that year and subsequent years. This scandal is still under investigation.

Interesting that Matewsky was absent from the special joint convention that was called to discuss the absentee ballots.

Why is Wayne Matewsky not making any statements in reference to the absentee ballot scandal, and acknowledging it like John Hanlon did?

Absentee ballots originally began to be a manner in which ill individuals or people who wouldn't be in town could involve themselves in the Democratic Process. NOT IN EVERETT....... ITS BECOME A MANNER IN WHICH PEOPLE HIJACK campaigns and DENY US OUR RIGHTS AS HONEST PROPERLY VOTING CITIZENS. SHAME SHAME SHAME...... very very scarey

Everett is fast becoming known as the city of Absentee Ballots at Election time. Even the U.S. Attorney's Office can't figure out what to do. Smith pleads guilty to the charge that he and others were involved.

The U.S. Attorney's won't disclose the names of others involved after Smith has pled guilty to the charge. What kind of justice is that?

It seems it's time for a new U.S. Attorney who knows how th serve the public and correct the wrongs committed and could be committed again.

What a farce if this isn't corrected.

Did SMITH say there were others or was that announced at some point by the US Attorney. I'm SURE there were others but the question is WHO is SMITH protecting? I don't think he'd protect Matewsky unless...... Seems strange that they supposedly hated each other and yet Smith gave him a job!! Makes you wonder what Wayne has on Stat??? Who would be that important to Stat that he wouldn't drag Wayne under the bus with him? Could it be that Wayne would drag someone else near and dear to Smith along for the ride??

There have been so many rumors out there on who else is involved in the absentee scandal. I have heard Matewsky, DiDomenico, DeMaria, Conelio, Mangan, Smith's daughters and the list goes on.

The courts should have sentenced Smith before the election so the names of the others could be released.

It was the US Attorney who said there were others involved, not Smith.

When Smith pled guilty to the charges of the US Attorney's office, he is stating they are true, otherwise the US attorney would have to prove them at trial and there would not be the agreement between Smith and the US Attorney's office to recommend to the Judge that the case be resolved on the terms agreed to by Smith.

If it went to trial Smith could receive a far stiffer prison sentence if found guilty. When Smith goes before the Judge in April, the Judge may very well ask for the other names involved in the charges brought by the US Attorneys office if the US Attorney has hasn't already disclosed them to the public, otherwise the charge against Smith is a joke

There's a lot of disfunction with the DeMaria administration and this reflects on him. He's the one in charge and this never happened before under anyone else's watch. Maybe if he showed up once in a while people would actually work.

Unless the US attorney's office and Secretary of State are contacted by people, nothing will be done about it. You can contact them anonymously I know a lot of people are too afraid.

The sad sad reality of this situation is that Everett is incestuous! Sad but true. We want reform. We want it to be cleaned up; however, when someone begins to do the clean up, it brings us, inevitably to someone we know.... that changes our minds and who ever doing the cleaning becomes a jerk. Only to be followed by being called every name in he book and to expect them to have their good names dragged through the mud.

How bad are we that for over TEN years we've allowed our elections to be tainted and our votes NOT TO COUNT.

Everett needs a bomb dropped on it and rebuilt from the bottom up. Makes you want to cry ! Doesn't it?

Matewsky showed his guilt in the debate. He got all nervous when Mr Puleo asked him about his involvement in Smiths Voter Fraud case.He had to take letters to the debate.Poor Wayno.

Have any of you posting on here come from Boston! First off , Everett is no different from any other city, town around here. The good old boy attitude is alive and well still. It's part of the fun of living in a small town, everyone knows everyone, we help each other out, if a job needed and we can help and it's not illegal we help get jobs. Every mayor this comes up, get over it!

STOP THE COMPLAINTS: Yes politicians 'help' their constiuents get jobs, that's a given in any town or city anywhere.

More to the point though: These aren't just 'jobs' that Carlo is handing out - he has hired 'heads of departments' that make mega-bucks...really mega-bucks !!! I think he has even created some new departments so he can hire these people....This is costing us big time - Not only the mega-salaries they make, but the benefits they receive...and for the most part I don't believe they are even EVERETT people !!!!

Usually the 'jobs' given out to friends were more of a middle-of-the-road type position and just an average salary....not these inflated salaries for these 'friends.'
