live in tewksbury now, but heart is still in wilmington. I can go back farther before there even was a beach house at the lake. We would go to the lake after my dad got home, and then go to virginia parkers (where jiffy lube is now) and bring home chicken dinners. And when we had independent pharmacies like birch, silver lake, krystal, and village apothecary ( I met my husband when he worked there)
I am also a veteran of the sweetheart plastics 3-7 shift. We worked hard, but had fun, and how many marriages (and a few divorces!!!) came out of relationships that started there.

Kilinack was off west st. That was a long time ago, but it was always a place crowded with cars on saturday nite, How about the Wamesit Drive In, Weinburgs was the 19 1/2 store of its day. I met my husband on the 3-7 shift at Sweethearts too, a lot of hook ups there. I remeber the elimination of the dress code finally at the high school and being able to smoke out in the parking lot, how about the Town Park..lots of memeories

until now, i had completly forgotten about birch super drug..
i too worked at sweetheart plastics in
the summer of 75. i rode my bike as i didnt drive yet and i remember bringing home those free posicles for everyone..sitting out on a hot summer night..eating rootbeer posicles after work.
the
tapioca in the dinig room for 10 cents..good if you were hungry and broke.

i hated working there. noisy, hot and boring. i
used to sneak into the yogurt room when i
was bored and watch them(paint) make the cups.

Stelio's had mice and roaches. Ask almost any former employee. I don't know about the one in Billerica, but I'd be careful since it's located where the Concord Shores once was, right near the river. Did I say river rats? I wwouldn't order any vermincelli there. LOL!

ahhh the concord shores..50 year old men looking for the easy girls on a weekday night..you couldnt make eye contact with anyone of those lounge lizards on any given night, or they would be all over you.what the heck, i was so young that i didnt even know the difference between a nice lounge or bar and a crappy dump like the concord shores.the only nice bar i ever went to was the top of the hub in boston.

Yes it was 1969 when the code was lifted and we were all thrilled, we could wear out jeans, and floppy hats (a definate trend back then) and go to school as if we were going out on a saturday to the plaza. I graduated in 1970, my brothers graduated closer to 1976. I also remember "office machine class" so funny it would be called that but they were office machines, type writers, we were so happy in 1970 when the school got electric typewritters..life was so much simpler then, I guess because we knew so little..

when i took typing, it was called "general business" i graduated by one point because that teacher gave it to me after seeing me try so hard.

your brothers names?? ifyou dont mind. i might know them.

my mothers dream for me was to be a brief case carrying, suit wearing, sneaker wearing(carrying my pumps), train chasing, bow tie wearing, yogurt for lunch eating, yuppie secretary. just like her.

never happened.

i ended up in healthcare for 30-35 years. still in it, but not directly.

funny how many kids worked at Sweethearts back in the day. I am in healthcare too, i am the brief case carrying, suit wearing, sneaker carrying person who works in boston, but no longer takes public transportation. That pays the bills, on weekends I am the torn jeans biker lady who loves to go to NH and hike..two differnt worlds.
My brothers last name was Harnish. All of us moved out of wilmington right after high school.
I am trying to remember the women who taught office machines, she was very old when I graduated so probably not still there when you took general office.

On 38 near the Woburn line - the building is now Hampshire Press - right next to Kirkwood Printing on the left as you head to Woburn.

i worked there in the summer of 1975. aftr school started i had some boyfriend issues in my life, got depressed and walked out.i hung my Id tag on someones mailbox and walked home, about a mile.

my typing teacher was young, probably in her 30s..i saw and spoke to her her one day when i worked at the bakery at marketbasket, about 7 years ago and she was still teaching at the HS.to this day i am gratful that she gave me that one point to graduate even though i didnt earn it.

my brother was the lifeguard at silver lake and everyone knew him as diz. he was into everything recreation in wilmington,he had to go searching for the kid who drown in july of 75.(kevin nolan)

the building that housed sweetheart plastics is still there and houses a number of businesses. sweethearts moved on though, i believe in the 80s.

diamond crystal salt, across the street, continues to be successful in lookig like an abandoned building, which it is, cracked asphalt and weeds included.
