We lived off Glen Road on Faulkner Ave, but we used Miller Road as our access street.
Ice skating on the cranberry bog.
Exploring Lubber Brook.
Having 10 cents to spend at Tatís was heaven.
Cheeseburgers at Louieís drugstore.
1956-1957: Went to Mildred H. Rogers 1st & 2nd Grade (Miss Snell and Mrs. Reagan)
1958: Centre School 3rd Grade (Mrs Riley)
1959: The beginning of 4th Grade at WHS while the Round School (Glen Road School) was being completed then being among the first students to attend the new school.
Moved to Southern California in 1960 and went all thru Junior High talking with that Wilmington accent.

We moved out of Wilmington from Columbia St in 1975 to Florida. However, I remember:
The small news store (Ames) uptown. My aunt used to work there.

Weinbergs - plastic containers full of candy and Quoddy moccasins.

Church St hardware

Father Mackin (scary guy)

Hanging out at the old Fire Station

The Fire Horn

Walker School

Mrs. Kevil (I was terrified of this teacher at the Walker school when I was in 1st grade).

The Bog

Rice's Pond where we played hockey

Ricky's Dog House

Jack in the Box

Many Many other fond memories....

Wow I was telling my kids about Dr Wallent my old dentist. He used to give out ice cream vouchers for Sunnyhurst farms. My kids just got one from thier dentist (the guy bought Dr Wallents old practice) They got a slush from Luccis across the street. I grew up near the Lake and was laughing at the comments about Tattersals. Wilmington has a lot of good stories. All the old places had character not like to day everything is fast in and out with no conversation in between. Miss the old Farmer and the dell Great subs. I used to ride my bike down to buy some junk food with my friends. Avco I remember activists would do a mock nuclear event in the road as the light turned red.
Thanks for all the memories you all reminded me of.

When Textron was known as Avco. I worked there for 4 1/2 years on the 80s in what I call now my life before M/A-COM. Some of the guys I knew in the drafting dept would refer to Woodside's as Building W.
I loved the original Stelio's and I can still remember when the land was being filled in for Mike's Pizza and one of the subs they offered was the AVCO MX. I used to love Mike's original meat pies when they first opened.
I worked at Avco in 1985/86. I worked in bldg 9 which was considered the new part. Do you remember when a person was found dead in a car? The car was parked in the entrance of bldg 9. I remember walking by the car & thought that the person was sleeping. A lot of other people thought the same thing.

The candle pin bowling alley was in south Wilmington on the left past Greers before the dump and that gas station on the right before the North Woburn line. It was a printing shop for a while.
Anyone remember Scotty's Donuts next to Demoulas?
There was a stand alone wooden building with a candy-paperback book-magazine store in it down from the sub shop across the street from Pooles Bakery too.

Tatersalls was at the corner of Grove Ave and Main. I lived across the street next to the Bowen family until 57. I moved to Tewksbury and graduated in 1963. Class of 63/64 at WHS have a great reunion.

yes i knew a mark matarese also and heard that he had died. i wonder if its the same. we can do a google search. he was a dear friend in high school.
was this mark matarese you knew, slightly effeminate and chubby? a sweetheart of a guy. we had some fun times in the high school drama club.
Mark was a friend of mine in HS, and saw him a few times after and we were in ARSENIC AND OLD LACE together. Last time I saw him he was going to school in NYC. Then we went our separate ways. When I was visiting a friends grave at Wildwood Cemetery I saw a stone that said MARK MATARESE on it. The years sounded correct as far as age. I have searched online to find out what had happened, but came up short. He was a good kid.
