The selectmen are ripping the recall petition? Why? Is there something to hide? I am pretty sure it is this mans right to do this and if he gets the signatures, something must be amiss? That is the first reaction when somebody is guilty, to go on the defensive. As for the selectmen, if they are above reproach as they should be, then there is nothing to worry about.
BOS are afraid that they're next so they want to nip this thing in the bud.

What's going to be a really rich is when Jim Lane is elected to BOS by a landslide. He's simply more of the same and everybody. Maybe Loew could have actually run a campaign?

It will cost Chelmsford $14K for the special election to replace Selectman Sean Scanlon, who resigned early. Did the BOS complain about that or did they praise Sean for his wonderful service?

Open space couldn't be preserved and instead was handed over to former Selectman Eliopoulos because the intent of the preservation act didn't count. We were told only the letter of the law counted.

Now with the recall petition all we hear is that this wasn't the intent of the recall law and that the cost of a special election is too much to bear.

Hypocrisy thy name is Chelmsford.

The cure for hypocrisy is democracy.

Why would the planning board spend money for signs to stop a recall? Why are the selectmen suddenly so outspoken and "up in arms" about the recall? Why is the town being threatened with reduced services to pay for the recall? Where was the outrage when Scanlon quit, forcing a special election?
Something stinks, and the cockroaches are scattering.
There is no special election, that's why Scanlon quit when he did - to save taxpayers money. He was a DB to quit but at least he had that forethought.

Yes, there is a special election. You must go to two tables when you go to vote. They happen to be on the same day and in the same buildings, but its two elections for which we're paying about $15k ....

All of these people, Roland, Phil, The BOS ... all of them are rotten.

The citizens have every right to ask for a re-call.
It should be noted that the sleeping voting majority are fed up with thin your face attitude of elected officials.

It is really difficult to get a recall election to occur. It is purposefully made difficult to avoid it constantly happening... for obvious reasons.

So if it does happen, the elected officials of Chelmsford should take a deep long look and the mirror and ask themselves why they have angered the voters so much.

Are they really serving the voters if so many of them are that angry that they want a recall?

Regardless of the issue, right or wrong, anger enough voters by going against their will then you must be prepared to face the consequences either through an election or a recall.

Something really stinks in Chelmsford for a recall to even get any traction at all.
Why the Surprise

Sean benefited and won the election because of Roland Van Liew’s berating tactics. So I guess Roland indirectly forced this special election because Sean could not follow through with his commitment to serve Chelmsford. Do not allow Roland to manipulate us again. Do not sign the petition.

The BOS regularly schedule "special elections" when it suits THEIR needs, or to override Prop. 2 1/2 or to try and convince us to build new firestations or DPW buildings or close Westlands School,.....etc., but I guess the costs associated with those special elections dont count? But a guy who works for 2400 signatures, somehow HE is wasting the town's money? I think you have it backasswards!

It's kind of sad really. The reality of it is that even if the recall succeeds, you people will still be here in a year berating whoever takes their place. At some point you have to put up or shut up, right?

Roland is a bully. He gets a few other thugs to believe his messed up way of thinking and the lemmings follow him. There are many people that will not give him the time of day. The people that believe in conspiracy theories should get off their horses and run for office. There are good people that volunteer and try to help. Not everyone is in it for the money and fame. Quite the contrary ---- with nut cases like RVL and his buddies ---- you might as well run for the hills as the sky is falling. Bullying is banned in the schools and Roland should be banned from Chelmsford.

Yes there is a special election for the open BOS seat that Sean Scanlon vacated. How do you think the state election is going to get the town's names on the ballot. It's a special ballot, hence a special election and an additional cost to the town.

It is my opinion that something is wrong with this situation. Many people made the wrong decisions that allowed all this to happen. Unfortunatly it is because of money (as usual)that this has come to be.

The building is up, let it stay and soak the SOB'S with taxes like the rest us town residents.

Nice job people. thank you for putting us on the negative news map.

It's clear you have an agenda and will not be happy until it is fulfilled. Why do you not just run for office instead of trampling on the character of volunteers? If your're such a big shot, run for office and make the changes you complain need changing.
Who gives two flying craps if he or she is a volunteer? They chose to run for office. They were elected, in good faith, by the voters to do what the voters wanted, and to answer to the voters if they do not. Obviously they have done some serious damage if they are this close to a recall.

Being a volunteer means nothing. If you run for office and are elected, do what you were elected to do and you won't have anything to worry about, even your precious character. Statements like the one you made are, at best naive and foolish dribble. More likely than that though, methinks you are either one who's head is on the chopping block, or a close relation of some sort. Either way, you make me laugh.

The only thing you can do now is boycott the office. Don't go to the lawyers office - don't go to the sister's practice. That's about all you can do. Yes, its a big building. Yes, they practically got the land for free. Its not ugly to look at.
