Who's for meeting-up in Buffalo next June on the weekend of the Allentown Art Festival? You don't have to be a current resident of Buffalo of course.
I have to meet some of you MANIACS sometime over beers or cocktails in a bar!

On summer visits my wife and I usually rent a "fisherman's" cottage in Olcott Beach because we're the laid-back type who don't do the bar scene often (we drink and barbeque together and listen to Jazz FM 91.1 from Toronto ... maybe one night there we'll go to The Mariner's for bar drinks and a paid dinner), BUT I'd be willing to go back to my wilder roots briefly for a few great laughs!

The more the merrier! Only question is where? Allentown bars themselves would probably be too crowded then (even though I want to attend the Fest during the day)- maybe up Elmwood Avenue in the No Name / Bullfeather's / Cole's neck-of-the-woods?

I'm not that familiar with the bars there anymore and any imput from those who are would be appreciated, although it would have to be big enough to have tables and not just bar stools.

Think it over as we have about two-thirds of a year to decide!

No I don't know them, and I couldn't make a fall trip this year for financial and health reasons: We bought a new house in rural Albany (east side of the Hudson River going toward New England) in December, 2012 and have JUST SOLD our old one though it's not finalized ($)'til early November.

Besides paying double mortgages and utilities since then my wife lost her job and I had to take a medical leave from mine due to an illness I procured from cleaning-out our old damp, moldy basement.

After Hurricane Irene a couple of years ago I heard a woman in neighboring Vermont say on TV that the same thing happened to her. I mean, OVERNIGHT I went from looking like a chubby-boy to a prisoner liberated from Auschwitz or Dachau by the WW 2 Allies.

But keep-up the feedback like Porky's Amber Lounge, The Blue Wall, or Jack Astors!

Sure is - in fact the wife and I took a ride up to Saratoga National Cemetery today to put flowers on my mom's, dad's, and mom-in-law's graves and the foliage is starting to look gorgeous.

BTW, for a short while (three months) she lived in Virginia Beach not far from you. In the summer of 1976 when I was 19-and-a-half (and still a Buffalonian) legally driving, drinking, and watching "Taxi Driver" in first-run theatres my legally-wedded was only ONE HALF-A-YEAR OLD!

I'm now four years older than her mom was when she died in 2002 at the tragically-young age of 52, and am closer to her Vietnam-vet Marine Corps father's age than her's (MY dad was a WW 2 vet, skipping the Korean War altogether!). He's always kiddingly calling me a "slacker" although I just barely missed the draft age-wise and did not dodge it.

Back in grammar school a friend at Nardin Elementary told me the best way to avoid going physically to Vietnam yet still serve was to volunteer for the U.S. Navy (just sit it out in the Gulf of Tonkin safely behind all those big guns!), the U.S. Coast Guard, or regular Army BUT request some cold, God-forsaken place like a radar post in Alaska that nobody else wanted.

While not the bravest heroic type, I probably would have gone one of those three routes to avoid the stigma of draft dodger or much worse, deserter.

Folks,

Count me in on this one. Voice of Reason raises a good point, none of us know how much time we have on this planet. One of the things I've noticed throughout the years is that despite all the ball busting that goes on, everybody manages to write warm and sincere messages during the Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday season. I propose getting together sometime after Thanksgiving but before Christmas. We can figure out a venue after we agree upon a date and a time.

Yes, Tbird fought the Viet Nam War in North Carolina
At least I served MY Country not like you and ran away.
Life YOU will never know everything I did when I was in the Navy.
Like I said along time ago ask your "seal" buddy (the one you said you were going to have check me out} Just who did wear the "Trident" there were 3 groups in the navy, the Seals the W.Ts and the O.T.s ( I was an O.T.)
You haven't even had the balls to call him or even e-mail him and turn me in.
I was NOT a " SEAL " ( never said I was) but I did wear a " Trident"
and like I said I am very proud to say I have been awarded 2 N.U.C.s and a M.U.C.
You should take the time and look up just what those awards stand for, or are equal to.
OH you coward I understand our unit has been recommended to recieve the Pres. Unit Comm.
Check it out little boy

Just like Gump said we could all get together but you know LIFE won't show up.
Remember when you, gump and myself sat at the bar at Jack Astor's waiting for Life Coach to show up?
How long did we sit there?
And now Life has the Balls to sit out here and tell everybody we ( I ) didn't show up.
As I have told him time and time again I was there with Gump and you but I guess he thinks I am lying.
Have a nice night and hope to see you again soon

I had to laugh when I saw the original post from one of the relatively few normal and seemingly decent humans on this cesspool of a board proposed a get together. Are you crazy?? This is the worst group of sociopath, racist, idiotic, psychotic, vicious people in WNY outside of prison. Why not meet at the Buffalo Sewage Treatment Plant?

Genius, the draft was over when I turned 18, so there was no reason to "run away"
You are the one who ran away because you joined the navy to stay out of harm's way
I never said I personally knew that SEAL, but he has a website and I have emailed him.
I never said you claimed to be a SEAL or that you ever even claimed to be in combat
I would love to see this guy question Nam Vet Biker

Age-wise I was in the same spot as you, but there's nothing "wrong" with serving in another capacity than direct harm's way. If some gung-ho folks would rather be in the "trenches" (to use WW 1 terminology) and others would rather support them from the relative "safety" of the air or sea they're still serving the same purpose of victory, and as I previously said it's better than being a draft dodger or deserter.

You are a sick bastard. Everyone is invited so what does that have to do with your assessment? ZIP

Your suggestion of a different venue is more pointless if that's possible. What is anyone going to do there? Watch you take a bath or fish for your dinner?

I for one would however suggest a minor change in the venue, even if it is just to get things started. Starting off at a GNC first to do a weigh in and anyone that needs dietary supplements. Then off to a pub.
