Well, your sears is now an institution of higher learning, not a blue collar lay-a-way center. Also, how far can your oversized rear peddle a bike these days?

I suspect this tale to be 82% fabricated.
No Knee Grows

I grew up in the Delaware District in the 70's and 80's. My father still lives there. A beautiful street running East/West. The problem is that the knee grows would use it as a way to get from their hood to the west side, and also as a free flea market of sorts. They would take plants, shovels, extension cords, bikes.... basically anything that wasn't nailed down - and even if it were in some cases.

One of my first jobs was at the Broad Elm that was on Main and Delevan by where Sears used to be.

I got a new bike when I was about 10 years old in about 1967.It was a stupid-looking "sting-ray" style. I lived in an area that was on the border of a predominantly black area in those days (the border has moved since then).
My father's rule was that I had to bring the bike into the basement every night. It was very common to see sever black teens riding west into the white area riding double on crappy bikes and then coming back a half hour later each one on a nice bike.
One night I got lazy and put my bike (locked) on the back porch. The next morning it was gone. My father was pissed. He was not going to buy me another bicycle because I didn't put it in the basement.
I went and got my #34 Louisville Slugger and held it in a batting stance at the curb in front of my house. My father saw me and confronted me and asked me what I was doing. I said "I am going to kill those n###### when then come riding down the street." My father took my bat and made me go into the house
The next day I got a phone call from a girl in my class. She told me my bike was in the bushes near her house and she told me the name of THE WHITE GERMAN KID who put it there
So did you ever thank the WHITE GERMAN KID who got your bike back from those thieving negroes and hid it for you?

No, it is 100% true except that I left out some details like the girl who told me where the bike was didn't always "sit like a lady" in school, so you could drop your pen and get a free show when you bent to pick it up.
Is that why you have trouble eyes now & have a hard time seeing ???
