First of all I would like to say shame on all of you Coal River residents whom have posted the belligerent comments. Behaving that way reflects on everyone of us, and others will percieve us all as uneducated hillbillies whos opinions do not matter. The environmentalists are counting on those "hate" comments, to fuel the discredit our view points.
I have been a lifetime resident of Coal River and and am very much dependant on the mining industry. I believe that that the Mountaintop removal is not as big an issue as the environmentalist have led the media to report.
I know of only 3 residents on Coal River whom have issues with mining and have appeared on newscasts. These are the only "Faces of Appalachia" whom I know to be local advocates. But the truth is one became a local landowner after marrying a disabled elderly coalminer whom passed shortly after they were wed. The land and home rightfully belong to his children. The residents of her community know she's just worried about her loosing the meal ticket she obtained when she married the very ill man. He was also very much her senior.
As for another, whom claims to be so against mining, is a former miner, who until he filed a lawsuit against his employer and lost, had no issues with mining. Now he carries a grudge against the company.
The third has a fairly comfortable life with all the funding she recieves. She too loves the attention, anyone who has encountered her knows she has always made an effort to be noticed, and now she has a larger platform to stand on.
The members of Ground Zero located in Rock Creek all claim that they are rallied for us( Coal River Locals)and our children and speak for us. They are in my opinion setting a bad example for our children. Presenting themselves as unkempt and dirty with no responsibilities. Most drink and use drugs, and since their invasion into our community the drug use in the area has, i would say increased dramatically.
Our families, community, state, and country depend on coal. We need to speak our minds, but in a way that we are not ignored because of the way we exhibit our opinions. Our opinions are very viable, but if we want them to be recognized with merit we need to communicate them with less ignorance. We need to appeal to the media with the same attitude and discredit the people whom are speaking louder and representing us.

Coal is bad for everyone except the fewer and fewer people who make a living off of mining and selling it.

'Clean Coal' is a lie... there is no such thing.

If WV wants to be smart about it they should start putting up as many solar panels and wind farms as they can.

Please stop selling out our health for your profit.

Thanks.

I agree 100% with you, I cannot understand how the Gov pays grants for a bunch of "wanna be hippies" to sit around and do nothing but get high and drunk off their asses each night. We, as Coal River need to report them.

Stop the stupidity might want to have their information correct before spouting stupidity.
I am at a loss as to how to stop the stupidity would know about the dramatic increase drug use unless they play some part in it. Are they using or selling?

you seriously have no idea how many people depend on the coal that my husband mines..90% of the people in this area can name at least 2 people that are or have worked in the coal mines..we as a community depend on the coal mines..and as for solar panels and wind farms..come on are you gonna be the one to climb to the top of every single mountain in this state to put up the fans? and do you have any idea how much noise they make? they sound like a rig settin right outside your window runnin all night all? is that what we want? No its not! when have a pretty good thing going here and we do not need people trying to stop something that has been going on since before most of them where born. i say just back off of our miners and let them do what they do best...supply your power and the steal for the bridges that you drive across and countless other things that you use every single day. so you need to stop saying to "stop the mining" unless you know that you can live without it---turn off your power, stop driving your car it has steal parts ya know, never walk across another bridge, and live with one of those crazy fans for a wind farm with in a 1/2 mile of your house. Then you wouldn't be so quick to bash all the miners and try to put them out of work. Just think about all the families that will be affected if the mines stopped production. Just stop and think about what it is you are doing before you just jump on the ban wagon because it sounds like a good idea!

I was just wondering....people want us to think about all of the families that would be affected if the mines cease production. They mention the steel that goes into the bridges and cars.
This begs the question...how many of you were so vocal when the steel industry collapsed?
When you speak of cars, how many of you are driving American brands?
Until you are all buying American, your opinion falls on deaf ears.
In other words, practice what you preach!!!!!!!!!

I don't use drugs nor sell them. As I stated I am a life time resident and unfortunately have observed many people I know, including family members, throw their lives away to substance abuse. So I suppose you are correct in assuming I play a role because I have to watch these people die slowly due to the drug use. I am the audiance in the production.

What about all the uninhabited land in the western cental part of the nation. The desolate part of the country that is mostly desert. Seems to me that is where the solar panels and windmills could be utilized. Maybe the environmentalist should move their cause there, where their movement would be more benificial to everyone. But wait, then they would have no battle. And thus no meal ticket.

Please correct any information that may be wrong. I would have no problem withdrawing my statement and with all apologies, provided you offer a feasible defence. So please step up to the podium.

WV would be a ghost town without the coal mines!! These people don't have a clue what they are even talking about. Do you all have any clue what all the coal mining industry has an effect on? I don't think so, because if you did you would just shut up.

Daily Horoscope for December 3

Gemini

Financial worries are never far away in these troubled times, but try not to let them get out of control. or you'll make yourself feel really fraught. If you're starting to panic about how you can afford this very expensive month, you need to work out a strict budget. Above all, be realistic about what you can and can't do, and don't allow panic to lead you by the nose.
