Aside from the dirt and constant dust storms it really isn't too bad here. The chow halls are great and the job is super. I am an office manager for a team that goes out and makes improvements to the lives of others. We are building homes, bathrooms, etc and taking in supplies. The Green Zone and Sadr City are under control and thats a huge improvement. Agree or disagree with why we are here, it is still a great mission for the people.I am proud to be part of it and although I do miss my family this 6 months will go a long way in my life.

You should be proud of what you do. That is a long time to be away from your family, but like you said, you will always remember this - and you should, with pride. Politics may cause people to disagree over the hows and whys, etc. and want their loved ones to come home - but that doesn't mean that what the soldiers are accomplishing isn't meaningful. People can be anti War but pro soldier. Lots of folks are anti Bush tactics, but certainly not anti military.
