I was really shocked by this piece.First, the costume is a little more than revealing. Does she even have on any underware? Second, who would bring a child to see and participate in this type of exhibitionism? Third, I feel that the integrety of this station has been sorely compromised. If these kind of stories must be produced and broadcast at least do so at a later hour. I'm really dissapointed.

It is a cultural difference; that's all. You're showing your provincialism by thinking this is wrong. It is considered an artful thing, and is not primarily sexual.

I would. I don't see anything shocking about her costume at all. I've seen young girls wearing less at the mall. And as someone mentioned, it's an art form. There is nothing shocking about it, unless your mind is in the gutter anyway.

First: It's underWEAR. You must have been really focused on her crotch for this to be such an issue for you.

Second: I am taking my 4 year old niece to see this lady dance. She has the not so unique ability to recognize that a talented belly dancer does not equal child molestation/serial killer/etc.

Third: You should bear in mind that WBIR is under no obligation to air only stories you like. If you don't like the story featured, turn the channel.

This entire story is so tacky. This is nothing more than soft porn and those of you who call it "art" are the same people that buy Playboy for the articles. What's next, a story about a stripper who "lights up" the Katch One on Friday and Saturday nights? Shame on you WBIR. "Straight From the Heart?" Not in my book. More like "Straight From the Loins!"

Ya know... it's been a while since I've seen one but I don't remember there being anything to read inside of a Playboy. Must be something new they've just added in the last 15 years or so. LOL

I just re-watched the video. Did you "so sayeth me" take the time to watch it? It is belly dancing for crying out loud. Soft porn? Are you kidding me? She is fully dressed compared to half the teenagers at the local pool in the summer. There were children in that video dancing as well. Are they sleezy too? Belly dancing is a great way to exercise and it is taught at the gym I worked out at 2 nights a week and there is nothing sleezy or pornish about it. You REALLY need to get out of your bubble because your such a prude!

OK... so I watched the video and I really saw nothing wrong with it. As Laura said, there were kids dancing too.

Oriental Dance ("Belly Dance") has the unfortunate condition of not yet shaking the stereotype passed down from the Victorian Era, when most Americans were introduced to it. It's never been intended to be sleazy any more than ballet or jazz. People that have a problem with it are simply misinformed and too stubborn to educate themselves out of their prejudices. Or they've been scarred by strippers pretending to be belly dancers for extra cash. Arella and other dancers in Knoxville are not like that. They ARE artists because they study and perform a traditional dance form, which is an art.
I'm sure that if B Harrison or anyone else with a similar opinion would have the courage to take a class or at least talk to a dancer (or anyone from the Middle East for that matter), they would see that belly dancers do not teach their students to entice, seduce, or sell their body. In fact, this dance form looks down sticking your backside out, being overly sexual, or wearing things that show too much leg; and you'll never catch a belly dancer touching anyone/being touched by another dancer or spreading her legs open to her audience. That would be extremely inappropriate. With that in mind think about the last ballet show you saw... I bet you could see every bit of that dancer's body thanks to leotards and tights. If they danced with a male partner, they probably put their hands more places than her waist.
Get some perspective before you post/get upset.
