Knoxville vs Chattanooga
These are only MY observations. Please correct me, or expand on these and tell me which city is better or worse and why. PROS-Knoxville - Larger City - Has UT - Has freeway system that can and is being expanded to handle growth/expansion. - Closer to Gatlinburg/Smoky N.P., BUT doesnt seem to create any synergy/spinoffs. CONS-Knoxville - Has crime rate of City 3x larger - Poor air quality - east side is a dump with lots of killings. PROS-Chattanooga - Has gorgeous downtown - Looks like a lot of rich folks have moved there - Easier access to Atlanta and Nashville CONS-Chattanooga - Smaller City than Knox - Has crime rate almost as high as Knoxville - Due to terrain/river, seems to have limited expansion area and limited opportunity to widen freeways. - Dont Know about air quality please inform. - Name sounds silly (Just kidding) |

Wow, I guess nobody has an opinion here on this one.
I ran the same one in Knoxville and got 42 responses in a couple of days. Many positive about Chattanooga. |

well, i've lived in both cities, and your observations are pretty darn accurate.
- One thing about both cities is the horrible traffic. However, the good thing is that if you don't want to do much driving, you probably dont have to - especially in Knoxville. Great shopping districts are all over, so you can pretty much get what you want without travelling very far. - The Chattanooga riverfront is far better than in Knoxville. Knoxville is working to improve theirs, but they have a LONG way to go. Much more things to do in downtown CHatt than downtown knowx. Tons more, in fact....restaurants, activities, etc. - True, east knox is a dump, but chatt has plenty of unsavory areas too. just don't go there. there's no reason to go there, so dont worry about it. - having the smokies so close is nice in knoxville, and pigeon forge and gatlinburg make up for a lot of what knox might be missing. but chatt has pplenty of outdoor stuff too. fantastic whitewater rafting is not far away in cleveland and plenty of state parks are here too. - chatt is a better location if you need to go to a bigger city. nashville and atlanta are only 2 hours away. its a 3 hour drive from knox to nash, and even farther to atlanta, so day trips are not too much fun. - the knox zoo is GREAT, and the chatt zoo is laughable. its pretty much a big petting zoo. VERY disappointing. - local tv and radio offer the same quality programming. -both are lacking in the live music scene. i was extremely disappointed that knox didnt have more to offer since UT was there. chatt would then seem a better option becasue of nash and atlanta. this is a tough call as to which place is better. if you're wanting immediate access to things to do all the time, i would say chatt is better (shopping is great in knox, but remember, there is a good drive to pigeon forge, and you will always have to deal with tourist traffic.) everything is closer to chat... bigger cities, outdoor stuff, plus the downtown activities are above and beyond what knox has to offer. like i said...very tough call...i love knox, but i may lean toward chatt. |

Hi everyone, I live in Knoxville and i have to say that it is s dump.
Chattanooga is pretty, better air quality, schools, government. You turn on the news here and the police, and city and county government are alwas in trouble with money and crap. Yes we have more shopping centers, banks, cvs, walgreens LOL. The cost of living is cheaper in Knoxville. I know Blount county is raising their property taxes. In 2010 the property tax will be i believe $2.20 per $100.00 of property value. In knoxville, you drive down the roads and you see trash all over the sides of the roads and nobody picks it up. There is no emission testing on cars here, so you see cars that should be in the junk yards on the roads. I remember when i used to go to Chattanooga / Soddy Daisy, you never saw jonk for cars on the roads because the girl i was dating there told me that they would not allow it there. She came to visit here and told me that they would get pulled over in Chattanooga. People complain about everything here. They do not want taxes, or even the waterfront development that is gonna happen downtown. Chattanooga have the Riverbend which we have nothing nice like that, and downtown is nicer than Knoxville. The unemployment rate is lower than Chattanooga, If i could find work in Chattanooga, i would move there in a second. If anyone knows of any good paying jobs there please let me know. I really do like Chattanooga, some may call me crazy because i do not live there, but to be honest, Knoxville sucks!! |

If you lived here you would see the same problems... The part about junk cars is crap, the emission testing is a rackett to scam us out of money, and some or our government officials were cought taking bribes in the TN Waltz sting. The main thing that makes Chattanooga better than knoxville is that we do not have to look at so much orange and white... It is sickening in kville. You can not go anywhere around there without seeing some moron from that campus, acting a fool. |

I forgot to mention that the people here are rude. The police do not do nothing here so they have to put up red light cameras to catch people running red lights. I agree about the orange and white thing. There is no where to park downtown. We have crooks for a mayor, county commissioners also, the schools suck. The air is polluted because of the cars and factories and TVA. Crime is also getting bad here too. People can not drive worth a flip here either.
If anyone knows of any good companies that are hiring there that pay good, let me know. |

LOL sorry, i was refering to Knoxville.
I used to date a girl that lived in Soddy daisy and i would drive from Knox to there alot and when i was there, people was much more friendly than Knoxville, even in restraunts people were friendly. I forgot to mention that i did not see as many mexicans in Chattanooga as we have here in Knoxville, they are all over the place here, my apt complex is infested with them and some have 1 bed apts and they have 15 people living in it. I still live Chattanooga alot more than this dump that they call Knoxville. |
Let's face it. Chattanooga is better than Knoxville. We are all sweet here lol |
