Fit U, a new fitness center at 7540 East Brainerd Road, will celebrate its opening with a ribbon cutting on Feb. 22. The festivities, which are being arranged by the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, will start at 10 a.m.
Fit U is owned by Darin Johnson, who has over 20 years of experience in the fitness industry in the Chattanooga area. He has over 40 body-building titles, including state and national honors. Mr. Johnson formerly owned Elite Fitness and The Athletic Club.
“Staying in shape has kept me young and full of energy,” Mr. Johnson said.“Working out is the only fountain of youth out there. You can tuck it, pull it, lift it and cut it, but it always comes back to a good workout routine.”
Mr. Johnson said he operates a fitness program that offers individual attention to each client. The name Fit U means that the workout program fits “you,” the customer, Mr. Johnson said.
Fit U is open Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mr. Johnson has three employees.

The sale of Pancake’s butcher shop on Gunbarrel is now pending and should close within two weeks. The new potential owners are local group of reputable spinal surgeons. The bank’s agents attempted to represent the facility as a certified surgical facility, in hopes of garnering more money on the sale’s price, it didn’t work. The potential sales price is not only far below market value, but significantly less than what Pancake owed the bank. The bank will now pay a price for making a loan to Pancake in the first place.

And what about all those folks that filed the lawsuit?? Even if settled out of court, that's a lot of people and there should be little of the estate left! Hopefully there will be a way to find out how this sad story ends. |

Someone’s paying attention, where did the rest of Dr. Pancake’s clique go, anyone? Did Darrin learn a life’s lesson; did Pancake’s suicide wake him up? Well let’s see; he is now in rented “Very B” space while Pancake’s constructed building was “Triple A”, he has leased mediocre exercise equipment while Pancake had the very best ( at the time & color coordinated), he has no owner ‘s sign out front with his name plastered on it (this makes me so very happy), he forwards the marketing thought ; physical exercise is the only answer but I do believe he’s still enjoys his “very large calf’s” courtesy of the good Dr. Pancake, while I have no idea about steroid usage at his new establishment “Fit-U”(but I will look into it, I promise), direct competition has increase 300 percent and he accomplished most of this with other people’s money! He’s even stated he feels relived; from what? Maybe Pancake’s bankers and Darrin’s investors should “do lunch”?
The sale of Pancakes building is a done deal; it even hit THE local news paper, I use the word “newspaper” very, very loosely, a couple of days ago. Our well respected Times-Free Press still refers to the good Dr. Pancake as a prominent "Plastic Surgeon”. The sale of the butcher shop should serve as a catalyst of shorts for the civil proceedings against his estate. Your right, there will be nothing left of his estate. However, do not be dismayed, it appears Mr. and Mrs. Pancake did some legal ranging in the spring of 2007 regarding their companies registered within Hamilton County, somewhat interesting because this exact time period marks the beginning of the incubation stage for the disease he contracted, as noted in his autopsy report, these are facts. Additionally, Debbie’s family is responsible for Access Drug Store in Hixson,(Please recall she is suppose to hold a doctorate in Pharmacology), she’s not concerned where her next meal comes from, trust me. Here’s a novel idea; Hay Debbie, get a job! However I remain very troubled by the lack of accountability in this entire matter and still strongly suggest the; American College of Surgeons, the local medical society and certain local Doctor’s carry significant liabilities for Pancake’s professional fraud committed on this community and should be held accountable. |

A spinal surgery practice is opening a new nonoperative service in the building owned by the late Chattanooga plastic surgeon Dr. Bruce Pancake.
Spine Surgery Associates LLC bought The Phoenix Center Spa Medicus at 1736 Gunbarrel Road for $2.5 million, said David DeVaney, president of NAI Charter Real Estate, who brokered the deal. The seller was Dr. Pancake’s estate. “We’ll be focusing on all aspects of spine care, especially nonoperative intervention,” said Gary Pulsfus, administrator of Spine Surgery Associates.“Our surgeons are excellent if you need surgery, but if people can avoid surgery it can lead to a very active lifestyle.” The 12,700-square-foot medical center is near Chick-fil-A restaurant. “The Gunbarrel Road market is maturing,” Mr. DeVaney said.“We are seeing the positive side of zoning regulations which are controlling development there, and you are seeing buildings which are being retrofitted and reused.” The Spine Center, the new business’ name, is expected to open in June or July after cosmetic renovations are completed at the Gunbarrel site, Mr. Pulsfus said. The Spine Center is advertising to hire two physicians, he said, and will add six to seven support staff. The business will focus on all aspects of spine care, including therapy, rehabilitation and pain injections, Mr. Pulsfus said. The Spine Center also will start a worker’s compensation program to speed the treatment process for injured workers, he said. Spine Surgery Associates’ original office inside Erlanger Medical Mall will remain open, Mr. Pulsfus said. That office has five physicians. Dr. Pancake was found dead inside his Gunbarrel office in September 2007. Authorities later ruled his death a suicide, according to newspaper archives. |

1 Apologies for the delay in responding, on an extended holiday and certainly thank you for your concern. If only the individuals around Pancake had shown some level of concern, maybe some of this pain could have been avoided? Unfortunately, 47 individuals minimally, living today will never forget Bruce Pancake or his pitiful behavior for the rest of their lives, too bad he’s dead or he could be prosecuted for fraud! Enough with the; “should a, would a, and could a!” However, the individuals who supported Pancake during his rein of terror, this “my sister” is an entirely different matter all together? Enjoy Atlanta, I do quit often and had the opportunity several weeks ago, when leaving to enjoy a 5 star, with some folks who are equally concerned with "quack doctor's" roaming the streets! Each knew of Pancake's fraud and death well and in detail, very interesting! |

1 HIV/Aids cannot be spread through general transfer of bodily fluids (sweat, touching, kissing, etc, etc.) PS...physicians can practice medicine HIV positive. It's very clear that if there had been transmission of HIV to his patients, it would have made news already. Plus, if in fact, he did have hepatitis (as suggested on this thread) there would have been a call for action by the department of health in Hamilton County. So, your claims and opinions have no merit. Though, it's clear, that dozens of his patients have joined together to create a mega-civil suit, according to the laws of statistics, only about 60-70% will hold merit. If you really want to take this one step further, out of the 1000s of surgical procedures that Dr. Pancake performed, it's not surprising to see this quantity of issues arise. Generally speaking about 3-4% of every 1000 patients aren't going to be happy with their results and have or will consider a lawsuit. This is exactly why congress has pressed for stiffer guidelines when it comes to mal-practice suits ( they are siding with the physicians). Good doctors are retiring or quiting their professions because the amount of frivilous lawsuits they face each year and the increase in mal-practive insurance. But, because you're so smart, you likely already knew this. For those who fear they may have contracted some disease from Dr. Pancake, I wouldn't worry to much about that. If it was a legitmate concern, you would have already been contacted by the Dept. of Health. To Impacted, your claims are frivolous and slanderous and hold no water. It's clear your efforts here are to continue to pound the the Pancake family. It's very obvious that you harbor hatred toward the Pancakes, why? Nobody will ever know on this thread. My suggestion would be to lay off a family who lost a husband and father...and let it go. |

The health department… surely you jest! Then kills himself leaving his children behind to sort through his mess? Sworn M.D.’s stood idle, his family, friends, employees and professional agencies, all had front row seats, watched this entire episode unfurl and did absolutely nothing, why? 1 Quick to judge and lazy in thought you rascal! I hate no one, while for the record; I do dislike several types of people, handling these undesirables when permitted by disassociation or no association; some examples of my dislikes, people unconcerned with the consequences of their actions, pretenders, the self-adsorbed or individuals who pray on the weak. I would not and did not associate with Pancake or his staff and I certainly wish I had never heard of him! I did not seek him, nor did he come looking; however through his pathetic morals, greed, an ego the size of Manhattan and lack of general respect for people; including his very own family. Bruce Pancake, along with members of his staff and one of my very own; adversely IMPACTED my family emotionally scaring them forever, it’s that simple. I do not take kindly to people who harm my family, not even when one of my own is involved. After being pushed into the “excrement pool” Pancake oversaw and when I was finally able to surface, I was dumbfounded by what I saw, never had I faced such a catastrophic situation; the web he and his staff had skillfully woven around the “Butcher shop” was completely contaminated in everyway, shape and form. His suicide was no surprise a tall; it was an early means of escape. Thank you; I am an intelligent, also very capable and resourceful. I’ve worked hard for it, have the benefit of a solid gene pool as foundation and enjoy extended generational friendships because of it. However, there are many others much more intelligent, so I consulted with both Doctor’s and Attorney’s who were more than aware of the happenings at the “Butcher Shop”. Being intelligent does not always work to ones advantage; ignorance is not accepted as an excuse here. You see, I was busy taking care of what I thought was important at the time, whilst the “train” Pancake engineered bear down on my family, resulting in serious injuries. Today I carry guilt over this, because with intelligence comes responsibilities, my family depended on me and I let them down. If I had been paying closer attention there would have been a different outcome, I assure you of that fact. Pancake’s train was not a well maintained; it rolled noisily, black smoke bellowed high above, it shook the ground it traveled upon and many “loud” individuals were aboard. It was a spectacle to behold, a true three-ring circus! Clearly visible for miles, painful tragedies were clearly inevitable and no one, but no one, did a damn thing to stop it! |

1 Specifically regarding the Pancake family, again I hate no one and do not wish any further harm or pain to the Pancake family. Each Pancake family member will determine their individual responsibilities in this matter and carry that forward in their respective lives. If any care to share their personal knowledge of this tragedy, great and if not so be it, that’s called privacy. Each is emotionally scared from this train wreck, just as my family is scared, along with many other families. So I can clearly empathize over this fact, but I will not sweep it under the table and forget it happened. In a business environment, when motivation is required but not present, one manipulates the money attached to the motivation sought. This gets everyone’s complete attention, sends out a clear message and in most cases helps correct the concern at hand. This is why I fully support the total liquidation of his estate and awarding any/all proceeds to the plaintiffs. I sincerely believe this will send the necessary clear message to other; “Quack Doctor’s”, legitimate Physicians along with their families this behavior by a doctor will no longer be tolerated. Attempting to blame his past clients in this matter is “old hat”, as stated you are “lazy” take the time to read the claims in the lawsuit! However, your thought’s here, clearly support a much deeper concern. Pancake was enabled to do what he did, certified medical professionals, including preferred local doctors and state/local authorities played a significant role in the fraud, he along with his staff committed on this community. If one follows this thread then my position on the American Collage of Surgeon’s role in this “alleged” criminal act should be more understandable. The A.C.S. is a private corporation which supplied “a lot” of credibility to Pancake professionally speaking for a fee, money. This is intent for God’s sake and is clearly documented. Additionally, the local doctors (M.D.’s) who supported and approved his membership, by their very own signature’s on his application form for the ACS membership is also documented, otherwise known as; a legal and binding contract in the great State of Tennessee.(Side note; please drink the water now!) If the medical community continues not to police their own, the doctors very own families don’t care and the state/local authorities turn a blind eye, than what/who will serve as a check & balance for bad doctors? Personally, I’ve had first-hand experience on this fact; my choices were simple; wake-up or prepare to pay a very expensive price, I did both. I’m very sick of hearing doctors cry over their mal-practice rates, when they clearly condone such bad professional behavior from their very own in the first place! Additionally, applying statistical data to Pancake’s criminal act(s) is kin to asking a heterosexual infected with HIV on their death bed,“why didn’t you use a condom” Why in the hell did you even bring HIV up in the first place, got a dog in that Hunt, do you? Again, lazy re-read that issue was; as “settled” as its going to get at this point. Funny, I just thought of a very early recollection of Pancake. When he was having the “The Butcher shop” constructed or stoking the engine up for the big ride, if you will. A friend and I were taking lunch driving past the building. The grade signage on the curbside had just received its metallic lettering. I asked:“have you ever heard of Dr. Pancake?”’ the reply “Ya, don’t bother” I then ask “Who’s Darrin” he replied “nobody trying to be somebody, read the sign dummy” Let me tell you: that was a very difficult “I told you so” to swallow! If you are serious, please read the entire thread, including the complete claim by Plaintiffs; word for word in the Pancake civil case (there’s a link posted) you will pick up bits and pieces of information along the way that will be most helpful I promise. Research and find out what his specific credentials as a Medical doctor are; Go to the ABMS website, the State of Tennessee's Department of Health/Human Services’ website and the local hospitals websites. Find out; His education, the year he received his under graduate degree, what medical school he graduated from & when, when & where he completed his residency requirements, what board(s) certified him & when did he receive his certification and then report this information back to this thread.(Note: Take no ones word, research it and find it out for yourself. There are idiots, right this very moment, who still believe Pancake was a board certified Plastic Surgeon, and you must read it all, just as the “Lazy One” should!) This provides a clean start to any claim(s) you may or may not have at this time. Be patience, its tough getting through the layers and please do not report findings in a loose fashion stick with the facts only at this time. PLEASE. In the mean, can you explain, in some detail how you ended up on his doorstep in the first place, explain his relationship with Pancake,“his buddy” you say? Just where did your medical procedures take place? Have you gone back to him with this problem, sought a second M.D.’s option on the matter? 1 Dee, Had a few minutes today and quarried information on Dr. Malcom Drew Shabo, it’s not good on the first pass. However, you already knew this don’t you. I was rushed the other day in responding, I did not fully process the details of your posting and I apologize. For the rerecord, I personally know nothing about this man. Please note; The ABMS will not be any assistance regarding a D.D.S. or Doctor of Dental Surgery. However, I did see that our state health and human services website has improved their reporting function significantly, Thank God! Shabo has been reprimanded by the state board regarding ethics confirmed in Jan 2008 and fined several thousand dollars, his first I believe. Ethic issues were the beginning of the end for Pancake, trust me! The initial parallels between these two, Pancake and Shabo are very concerning at this point. Although their respective professional disciplines are different their “business modals” are exact. Couple of personal observations; I would bet he is in hock up too his eyeballs, unless he or his wife, Tina, who was once registered nurse with the state, I believe, are lucky sperm and I doubt that too by what I see. I wonder who this boys banker is? Additionally, he sure is a “pretty boy” isn’t he?(Just reading the signs!)) If you can please share has much information as possible, this is a very interesting parallel and thanks for bringing it to this threads attention. |

I did not know Dr Pancake but I knew Bruce Pancake. He was a good guy and fellow ski patroller in days gone by. We past out basic ski patrol test togehter and then celebrated by getting well lit on wine and vodka.
People lose touch with childhood friends and innocence. |
