#1. Workouts
#2. Practice/Preparation
#3. Leadership
#4. Motivation

I really hate to beat a dead horse here, but I want to know what the workout schedule is like for MCHS football players. I have a hard time believing a team that loses 55-7 to a first year school has any of the above.

Is there any summer workouts? Do you have weight lifting competitions? 7 on 7 or secondary competitions? Do you even review film? Do you have any idea what a person in your weight class should be lifting?

How's the morale during practice? Do you go through the motions or are you actually working?

Believe me, the talent is there, but you're going to have to work for it.

The talent isn't there at all.. It's all at North Murray.

You can't blame it on that. That's the easy way out. You think people are born ready to play football? That's crazy. People are TRAINED to play football. It's nothing that 2 years of team camps, weight training, and drills won't put into every person.

I really can never see Murray being competitive at any main sports again for a long time. No disrespect to the football team, but their record over the past several years is embarrassing. It seems like every year Murray gets worse at football. How that happens is beyond me. I wouldn't mind seeing Murray drop the football program for a year or two and starting all over again in a sense. 55-7 against a first year school is horrendous.

Now that I have graduated and I'm an outsider looking in, I believe that the Indians need more support from the community. Coaching, practicing, and hard work can only take you so far. Couhulla Creek might be a first year varsity team, but they had fans that supported them out there. I'm sure that something could change at practice, but I think the school, fans, and community need to start supporting the Indians.

We still have pretty much the same coaching staff maybe we need principles, ads and coaches that give a crap. That is the only thing that doesnt change. i had season tickets for years and didnt even know many kids playing or have any of my own but i cant stand to watch it anymore. I think the community is behind you but they would like to see some changes made you cant tell me that they dont have athletes there that could at least score a few touchdowns a game or hold teams under 50 points for one game. i just dont think the effort is there like it used to be and it comes from the coaching staff.

Exactly. I feel like it's a lazy coaching staff.

You want to know, it the training they get in the rec department. Good kids being put on the side so the coaches kids can play ball. Six years later what do we have a bunch of kids who were selected at 7 years old to be rec stars. All you have to do is go to the first rec practice to see if there are tryouts? See if any kids can tryout or stay put. 11-12 had two teams make, why? Who wants to play for someone who will not see you or help you get better! There are tons of kids who should be playing but were treated so bad in rec ball they could care less. Unless you'er some coach who has teams in both 7-8 and 9-10 so your kids can be stars, then how are kids supposed to get better without real coaches who are there for the team not just 3 kids so they can play all-star go to Calhoun and get beat! Everyone knows how this goes, just like most things here in Murray. We need a clean house on the rec board and see if that would not change up some things. You want better high school football then quit letting the few run the rec so their kids are the only ones who get to play ball!

Smart guy you beat me to it. I was going to post something today along the same lines as you. Watching this program continue to get worse than better is getting very old. I will have a hard time going to anymore games this year or even the next few years. The coaching staff continues to prove they really don't care about the program. Lets start with the workout program. From what I understand there is no real "mandatory" summer workout set up for the players. A coach goes and unlocks the door and whoever shows up shows up. It is very obvious that there are no workouts because of how the kids got shoved and pushed around during the game. Another sign of no commitment and dedication is that Murray did not participate in the 7 on 7 games that were held this summer. Why not? Can some coach answer this? How can anyone be motivated when your team keeps losing and losing by such huge numbers. Leadership does not exist at Murray High School Football period. It is a huge embarrassment to the community. There are many kids walking the halls that used to play football and would make a difference but with no leadership, losing scores of 70+ to nothing more times than once and no discipline on the team why would anyone want to play there? During the meet and greet this year the 7th and 8th grade teams practiced while the high school team was practicing and I swear both teams looked so much better and organized than the high school team did. The HS coach even came over and told the middle school coaches that those kids looked so much better than most of his did. How sad is that? What is sad about all this is my son along with several other players will be forced to play under coaches and a school that doesn't give a shit about football. No football isn't everything but for the kids that enjoy playing it means a lot. There are a lot of talented kids coming up but with out talented coaches and coaches that care that talent will just go to waste.. Kids don't like to lose but they all need help to go in the right direction. Murray is not heading in the right direction but only getting worse. Unfortunately I live out of the North Murray district. I hear and see what is going on up there and even though they may not be great right now they seem have a plan. They are involving the middle school in their program. The coaches are getting involved with the middle school program. Their seems to be a school spirit there and the kids want to play and want to win. Murray was so excited about their home opener and prepared so well that they even forgot to paint the field. Numbers and lines looked horrible. Worst that field has ever looked. I wish all the coaches would allow the community to ask questions face to face with them and let us hear their excuses and reasoning behind such a shit program. They don't have the balls to do it I promise you. I hope by the time my son makes it to high school that the coaches that are there now are gone and we have new ones that are coaches and not just guys that want a few extra dollars given to them to stand out on the sidelines looking stupid. Coaches, you are losing games by 50-60 point average. Are you not embarrassed. Keep doing the same things and you will keep getting the same results and that is an ass whipping week after week after week. Well year after year after year. You all are proving your worth and to most of the community you are worthless.. LEAVE AND LEAVE SOON BEFORE YOU RUIN THE NEXT BUNCH OF KIDS COMING YOUR WAY..

Combine Murray and North Murray and keep all the good players together. Make one High School and make other High School a vocational school...

Stop the program...useless waste of time and space to the school. Its obvious if you go to games the kids are not motivated to play. They want to be called a football player but dont want to play as a football player. Need a coach who will shove a boot up their butts. Really whats the point...I dont care what anyone says, its all about winning. Why play if you dont play to win? People who say its not about winning must have a kid on the team They dont need to hear its not if you win but how you play, because they are playing like losers.

Murray County was doing pretty good when Napier was there. It seems that the smart thing to do would be to try to find out what Napier's coaching techniques were and try to copy some or all of them into the current program. It would also help if the high school coaches would work with the middle school coaches so they could identify potentially good players at an earlier age and start working with them at the middle school level so they are better prepared by the time they get to high school. My husband was a soccer coach a few years back, had an excellent kicker on the team. Kid had never played football but seemed interested. It was too late to do anything for football that year, but my husband took it upon himself to call the middle school football coach and advise him to take a look at the kid to play the following year. As far as we know, no one ever approached him about playing football.

Napier's techniques are what I listed above. Who do you think I learned them from?

Napier lived and breathed football 24/7. He was ALWAYS willing to go meet a player, take them to church, and motivate them to workout or play better. Football was not a 10 game and you're done season, for him. It was an entire year, when one season ended, you began training right away. The bad players were lazy, the good players did what Napier asked of them, the great players did every thing asked of them, and then some. It's not "talent". It's drive and motivation.

The "golden age"of Murray football is long past. The people of Murray did not appreciate when they had good teams and good coaches. They are just like other teams now mediocre and searching.

These coaches volunteer their time to do this sounds like you need to voluteer yours since you are so smart at the game of football. They aren't paid a dime these highschool coaches are paid. The reason 11 and 12 had 2 teams is because there isnt but about 3 or 4 12 year olds playing that are 6th graders and the rest of them are in middle school. If kids are good in football i guarantee they get to play cause you only got about 6 or 8 per team that are good if you are lucky the rest are kids that have parents dump them off for an hour so they can run around. Some teams only have 3 or 4.

Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking. The option was absolutely tearing Southeast apart.
