Sheriff's Dept dispatch swing shift employee's have been denied 4 hours overtime per pay period for 10 years. This issue has been brought up over and over again and now it is at the forefront. If the Department of Labor gets involved and progresses with a suit we will face a $10,000 fine $1,100 fine per incident, required to pay back hours at least 3 years, but an attorney advised that if this was willful they could go back 10 yrs. They would receive the back pay, an equal amount of liquidated dameges, plua attorney's fees and court cost. Where have our leaders been, this goes for Ensley,Welch,Starnes,Ridley, Hogan and our financial officer Tommy Parker. They all knew how these people should be paid because 911 has been paid correctly the entire time. Parker made sure his wife got paid correct at 911 until she had to resign. These employee's have been willing to have a reasonable settlement and move on, but they are being stalled because of the election. This is not the first time issues of not corret pay has been brought forward. Jailers who became Deputies where told it was a lateral move until they found out it was not and had to be paid back pay. If the Labor Dept. gets into Murray's books how many other lateral moves were given and employee's cheated out of increased salaries. We need to stop the campaigning and business needs to be handled immediatly. Bring out the checkbook and settle with these employee's and FIRE PARKER.

Cops, Teachers Firemen and everyone else eating at the Public troughs favorite passtime is complaining about how bad they are treated. How come almost none of them ever quit their jobs if things are so bad?

I can't believe you'd sit there and talk about the servicemen and women that way. Police officers and firemen risk their lives to protect and serve you, and educators help prepare the way for them and for you in order to do that. Just because a few "bad apples" are in the mix doesn't mean you should count the whole barrel spoiled.

Public jobs are some of the most underpaid jobs for degrees that they receive.

I don't complain about my pay but my job is under appreciated, obviously from your comments. I'd love for you to spend a day in any of their shoes and see if you don't want them getting paid a little more. We don't quit our jobs because who would want to go to school for a degree, complete with educational loans, to have to find a job in a different field? And, for your information, the retention rates on all of these jobs are low, so yes, many of them do quit their jobs over pay and benefits.

I am not an employee of Murray County and frankly I would not work for them even if I was starving because you give up your right of free speech. I heard this by accident from numerous sources. I am sure you would not like to not be paid your full salary. I as a taxpayer do not understand why this matter has not been settled and closed. Secrets in Murray County are never secret, it takes about 24 hours and they are everywhere. Your statement showed your ignorance. These people have not had a raise since Welch and have had to furlough 2 years, the very least this county could do is pay what the personnel are owed.

Just quite your damn job's and go get you one in the carpet mills ,service centers , wal mark , gas station, shoe shop or dress shop and then you will appreciate the jobs that you have and you will also find out the one you have pays better than you tought it did.IF you think the JUDGE was hard to work with you haven't seen anything yet, just ask the ladies, the good looking ones anyway. You won't make any money in Murray County unless you are a elected offical and yes they are all over paid by far.NO matter where you work you will still have to pay taxes to pay their wages, sad isn't it?

You are what is wrong with Murray, you are stupid. Would you work and not receive your pay, I think not. We have a Sheriff's dept in shambles because no one has been watching the store. You keep voting in the same good ole boys who do not do the job. that is why you get what you deserve. I do not work for the sheriffs office or would I because of what goes on in that office. Get knowledge and speak some sense or shut up. You have no idea what is happen in the dept and trust me it is worse than what Cochran did.

What are you talking about. Not one person said they did not appreciate their jobs. They just want the money due them, as anyone else would. Be careful how many you tell to get another job and leave their Civil Service employment. You may need a dupty or fire fighter one day.

I agree resident, they should be careful what they wish for. This is a sad situation because these people kept quiet and went thru the chain of command and what did they get for it? Nothing, but treated badly and denied more training by the sheriff who did pick someone behind closed doors, who does not show up for work, takes 25 min smoke breaks and long lunches. In the real world this person would be fired. This matter should have been settled immediately, election year or not. When an entity does wrong and admits it they should do everthing to correct it. I just wonder what Cleotis Jr would do if he needed someone from the sheriffs dept and nobody was available. He would be the first to yell.

Don't bet on it, I shoot first and ask questions later,I don't holler for help either. All I was trying to say was the people working for the county and I know a lot of them personally, if they are not happy with their job's quite and they will find out in a hurray they were better off than they thought they were .People work their as** off in these other places that I mention and pay taxes in order for them to get what they get now and they are not getting rich either.Women that work in these other places get harassed everyday and it doesn't make any differance if they are beautiful or not, they have to choose ,put up with it or quite,so county harassement is no different the private sector and the money is just as good also .Don't believe this article just ask any woman that works in the private sector, she really don't like your as* she just has to put up with you are quite, that's the way it's done in the good old usa.You might also ask them if they would like to have a raise and I don't know of any that would say no.

I say BULL SH*T. Nobody should just take it regardless if they work for the government of for a private company. Yeah they may be better off financially in the job they have now but that is no reason to accept the harassment. None of them should have to choose. These women may just be the catalyst in this community that influences all employers to take a closer look at how their employees are treated. And the red neck yahoos who can't leave woman alone need to be put on notice. This issue has been addressed in many places across the country and folks are better off for it. It's time Murray County moved into the 21st century. By the way the county employees pay taxes too. If there were more working folks who organized as a group then a lot of this sh*t would have disappeared long ago.

You have no idea what is going on at the sheriff's dept. and you have no idea how people are treated. Things are going on in that office that is worse than Cochran, that is why I will not support Howard again. He needs to get out of his office and find out what is going on in his dept. These people have many years invested in the sheriff's dept and why should they leave because they are working in a hostile working environment. Changes should be made and under Ensley they will not change, it is all about who you know or are related too. If he got out of his office and started writing up people I would still support him. He needs to start firing and demoting people including his lazy daughter and his worthless secretary.

thank you guest for understanding that we have problems and that good people are looking for jobs. If this keeps on happening we will be left with the goof offs and lazy people. I wonder what Dan and Cleotis Jr will do then when no one shows up when they need them.
