Exactly!!! Let these kids attend whatever school they want to as long as their attendance is good and leave it alone!!! How about we worry about the bigger picture here like kids bringing guns and knives to school!!! I am more worried about their safety at this point!! This is the 2nd incident in only the 3rd week of school!! Our school system has seriously went down hill!! For instance, I am suppose to receive text messages when something like this happens! WHEN IT HAPPENS!! NOT AFTER!!! I didn't receive the text until after the lock down was lifted and the text plainly said "they WERE under a code yellow lock down, it has been lifted and students are safe and secure"!!! Seriously?! I think it's pretty serious when a kid goes into a classroom and holds a knife to another child's throat!! We as parents should know what is going on when our children are in that school, as soon as it happens!!!!!!

I'm like you, I didnt get any notice until after the fact.
THIS IS WRONG!!!

We should be notifed the same time they go on a lockdown! Its the digital age, their is no reason they shouldn't advise us of a serious problem thats going on.

You wanted to be notified while the incident was going on? Do you think it's possible that the personnel at the school had other things to do while it was happening? Who do you think sends out the texts? Is it possible they were more concerned about making sure your kids were safe than creating a panic by sending out a text before the situation was resolved? If they had sent out a message before the incident ended, what would you have done about it? Are you Batman? How would having three hundred panicking parents show up to pull their kids out of school when they were in no danger themselves have affected efforts to get things under control? If ambulances or police had been needed, how would having a traffic jam out front help them get where they were needed?

Kids safe at these schools here???...That's a joke!!!!!
....If administration were doing there job instead of trying to track down every child in the county to make sure they are at the right school and pay attention to whats actually important then maybe these kids would not be getting into our schools with guns and knives!!!!!...Just bc no one was actually harmed doesnt mean its not a big problem bc in both incidents alot of ppl could have been hurt or killed!!!!!

They can't even prepare these kids for college don't think they can protect them. They are too worried about their own asses.

The Great OZ agrees with you, Mr T. While parents might want to be informed, it would create even more chaos with parents rushing to the school. Yes, this is a serious incident, but it appears everyone did exactly what they are trained to do. The last thing you would want in a situation like this is lots of panic and people showing up from everywhere. And for people thinking schools are more concerned about district lines than student safety, the Great OZ says, "Silence, whipper-snappers."

Murray Co Student Arrested for Holding Another Student at Knife Point
by Kevin Sims

A Murray County High School student has been arrested for holding another student at knife point in a classroom. According to Administrative Services Director Mike Tuck, the suspect is 14 years old and is in the custody of the Murray County Sheriff's Department. His name is not being released at this time because of his age.
The incident happened Tuesday morning in a classroom. The suspect pulled out two steak knives and held them to a female student's throat. At that time, Tuck says the teacher and another student took action to free the 17-year-old victim. Her family tells NewsChannel 9 that the suspect had been harrassing her lately but that she was not physically harmed during this morning's scare. The school was put on lockdown during the event.
This is the second weapons incident at a Murray County school in the past month. A few weeks ago, a student managed to take a sawed off shotgun onto a bus and was caught when other students reported the weapon.
Tuck is not immediately clear what discipline the suspect might face. He describes both recent incidents as isolated but says the school will certainly look at all security options to keep students safe.

And the reason they are worried about their a$$es is because they are not allowed to discipline students due to many parent's reactions when they try, lack of administrative and system support when they try, and they have spend many years in college and a lot of money for their education to be talked about in their community like dogs. If everyone keeps criticizing them the way many people already do then the system will keep going downhill because we will never be able to recruit the best teachers. Why on earth would anyone want to become a teacher when they have to put up with so much ridicule? n It will get worse in years to come because teachers don't even want their children to become teachers and the rest of you sure don't want your kids talked about like this.

I totally agree with you Just Wondering & Mr T. I have worked in more than one school system, including Murray County, and incidences like these happen other places too. The school system has a protocol for lockdowns & there is A LOT going on during this time. Usually kids with their own cell phones start sending texts & the parents first reaction is to go get their child. Part of the lockdown procedure is nobody gets in or out unless its a rescue worker or law enforcement. Notifying parents during a lockdown is not a priority in order to keep the phone lines & traffic open. Parents panic & start calling & showing up & the chaos begins.

Teachers can't teach the way they should for several reasons, and most of those reasons are to blame on the students. They are unruly, disrespectful, and think they are the boss. Let one teacher stand up to them to discipline & then you have mad mother hen at the school confronting that teacher. I've seen it firsthand too many times. No one wants to teach anymore because the verbal abuse isn't worth it.

And CHS parent, no school is 100% safe. There have been former gang students with juvenile probation officers enrolled in private schools before. Even at CHS.
