Hamilton - not for profit ... are you kidding...I guess that's why they own so many apartments, Bradley Wellness Center, and so on and on. Have you ever looked into Hamitlon Health Care Foundation? Don't forget about Alliant the insurance provider that is 50% owened by the Hamilton Medical Center and 50% owned by physicians.
Gordon Hospital is through the Seventh Day Adventist Group and yes, they are non-profit too.
But who are we all kidding ... if you can't make a profit ... you're not going to be in business very long. Nothing can operate without having some money on hand to maintain equipment and make necessary updates to meet the demands of providing a service.
The problem with anything in Murray County is that only a few are willing to support it. If one wants to make it a better hospital then why not help out? One can always volunteer and support a cause. Then one becomes part of the answer; not part of the problem.
Not for profit doesn't mean people don't get paid or you don't make money. It means that the money that is made goes back into the facility for improvements.

Mary makes some good points but I think that ASH is correct. According to Gordon's own web site they are indeed non-profit and part of the Adventist Health System.

>"Gordon Hospital is a 69-bed community hospital that is a member of Adventist Health System, the largest not-for-profit Protestant health system in the world."<

I'd say that they are pretty successful being a "non-profit".

MMC is an absolute joke!!Playing hospital as usual. They have lost doctors recently and they are about to lose more. The people of Murray County need a hospital and I hope with all of their borrowed money they can keep that one going. They are just getting more and more in debt. Hopefully something or somebody will pull them out of the hole they have dug. Good luck to them.

No it doesn't... Not for Profit doesn't mean it's supported by the government... it means that the "profit" they make doesn't go to a CEO or group of board members but back into the facility to improve it.

I don't think Murray County will have a hospital for much longer. Try calling and asking to speak to an administrator and see if you get a response. I know people that have had problems and have called 5-6 times and only get voicemail and never get a return call. Say what you want about Jim Hazel, but he would always take the time to speak to a patient or their family. We need administrators that are invested in this county.
