Our voted out sheriff started today giving his buddies promotions. He gave the supervisor's job to a floater
who will not come in when called to work for others even
though it is her job requirement. She takes 25 minute
smoke breaks and is rude. The job has been open 2 months
and two other people applied with more senority and excellent
work ethics. The county needs to write letters to the sheriff
demanding that he cease a desist from making any further
promotions.

I do not work for MSCO, nor would I. A floater works in dispatch and is suppose to come in when someone is off or out sick, this person refused to come in. Three other people applied for the position. Two of the 3 had more senority and experience.

The position is a supervisor of dispatch and has been vacant for two and a half months and was filled the day after the election.
The person that they gave it to is rude, takes 25 to 35 min smoke breaks, and only got the job because she is related to other people in the department. The person with the most senority was told before the election by Ray that she would have the job, why the change. The sheriff is going to promote people who do not do there jobs and are relatives before the new sheriff takes his position. This needs to be stopped, even if the court has to order it. This is why the sheriff lost the election and he should not be able to make these promotions, hire or fire until the new sheriff comes into the office.

The sheriff is still the boss like it or not . He has the right to run the sheriff's office as he see"s fit .When the new sheriff takes office he can hire or fire anyone he wants to . It is not up to you nor I to tell him what to do . You are mad because you can"t run the place .

As a taxpayer I have every right. when unqualified people are being promoted and it looks political I and everyone in this county has a right. Elections have concequences and he should let this go until January and let the new sheriff decide. This is going to get this county in trouble because I think the two that were passed over are going to file a grievance and again this could become a lawsuit. We need a court order for him to cease and desist. The sheriff's dept is a mess and that is why the sheriff lost the election. He should be a man and a professional and let the new sheriff do what he thinks is necessary after January. You say the new sheriff can fire this person in January and I am here to tell you that he cannot. He has to follow county employee laws, so it is not that easy to get rid of someone.

They need to get a court order to stop him from hiring, firing and promoting since the election. Some of us are looking into this. I would rather see the sheriff act like a man and a professional and not play these petty games. The dept has so many problems. They have still not paid the swing shift employees the money that is owed them and they have one week and then they are going to get an attorney involved. That could be a class action suit. Also, promoting a goof off over the hard workers is also going to cause the county trouble. He needs to be a sheriff and just handle the problems that come up and leave the hiring, firing and promoting to the next sheriff. That is honest, decent and the professional thing to do.

You go ahead with that court order. I'm sure you'll have that ALL cleared up in the next 3 months, and I'm also sure you'll throw your money down the drain.

I'll give you a guarantee here. You won't get a cease and desist before Ensley is out of office.

Want some pro bono advice? Grin and bear it, and take solace that he'll be gone soon.

It's already in the works, because we knew he was going to do this kind of stuff. He is proving that he should have been out a long time ago. The grievances don't take 3 months, they take 15 days. If an attorney get's involved over not paying the money, you as a taxpayer will be paying 5 times what the employee's were willing to except. I don't want to see a class action and I think it is embarrassing that a grievance is going to be filed because this was not handled in a legal way concerning promotions. I am sick of this county do things the way they want and not the legal way.

Smart Guy I forgot to tell you that this is not costing us a dime and even if it takes 3 months every promotion, hiring and firing will be declared invalid. Also, the swing shift not getting some of there unpaid back pay will cost this county plenty. If class action is filed they will go back 10 years and every employee working, left employment or dead will receive the 10 years of overtime pay they were denied, plus we will pay the legal fees, plus interest on the monies due. It is time for people to stand up for what is legal and correct instead of saying "oh well he is still the sheriff." I don't want to pay for this mess.

One other problem with this promotion is that she will work for her cousin.

Im not saying what Howard is doing is right but he is still in charge until january and I do know this, the wheels of our legal process turn VERY slow so I dont think nothing will happen before he leaves office. And as for what Gary can do Im not sure but I do think he can demote someone if he wants even if he cant fire them for no reason! But if fileing the grievance make these people feel better then its their right so do it, I just dont think it will help!

We know it will take longer to do legal action, but our aim is to invalidate any promotions, hirings or firings. I do believe if a grievance is filed they will win and they should. The grievance process takes about 15 days. It goes to Ensley then to the commissioner and then to the grievance board.

Sounds like you're violating due process to me then. You started legal action before a violation was committed?

Hmm...I wonder if this case would get tossed...

you people need to get a life and maybe get a job this is all ridiculous name calling back stabbing and talking about people Who is the judge GOD is the judge so nobody can get away with anything He will make the final decisions on everything and He is the only one who knows the truth about everything except the person who did it themselves.......so all we need to be doing is praying about all decisions made and that GOD will be in control of our decisions

We all suspected he would start promoting people just to make things difficult for the new sheriff. What we started was to see what we could do legally and within due process and we now know what has to done. We had hoped that the sheriff would act like a honest servent of the people and not embarrass himself, but that was too much to ask for.
