Union was unwilling to compromise.

Of course, when Hostess' executives received bonuses ranging from 35-300%, why do you want to compromise an 8% pay cut for 8000 workers?

Any bonus exceutives received was to keep them from leaving the company because of the situation they were in. Any bonus they received would not have made any difference to 18,000 peoples payroll checks.
The Union, in the long held belief, thinks it is better to destroy jobs than to give in and help save a company has created this situation.
Contrary to what working people are told the Union works for the Union not the it's members. Workers actually are csught in the middle between Management and Union.
These are the selfish greedy people that support Obama.

What you rarely hear is the millions union bosses make off the sweat of the members. The millions the members put in to build luxery clubs and resorts for the big wigs in with the union. Clubs the hard working people who support them have no chance to be a part of.

All of their leadership was in prison so they just decided to vote to keep their jobs. Less pay was better than no pay.

unions are good for the common working man and help provide a decent wage for workers so they can support their families. anyone ever tried to make a living off of min wage job. I worked two min wage jobs through college and still couldn't afford new shoes. Everyone should understand that most big corps care very little about your families well being. They could care less that little johnny needs a new coat for winter. The huge payouts to the shareholders are all that matters to most. I am pro business all the way but sometimes David needs a little help against Giant from time to time.

Unions tried to kill GM, Obama bought it with our money. The union is killing Hostess, do you think Obama will buy it or will Mrs. Obama overrule him because Hostess is one of the major causes of childhood obesity! Union loyalty OR nagging wife, WHO WILL WIN? LOL!

The union thugs were getting $22 an hour, and the company was paying $100 million annually into the pension fund.

You're a liar. The baker's union was making $16/hour. The teamster's (truck drivers) were making $20.

The pension obligation is correct though, but who's fault is that? When the s* hit the fan, why not fix the pension 2 or 3 years ago. Instead of asking for multi million dollars bonuses for former CEOs and waiting until the very last minute to try and fix it?

Union blamers are idiots. I want you to count how many NON union businesses go under every year as opposed to union businesses.

Now smart man is that a fair comparison considering only 6.9% of private business workers are uninionzed?
And that government businesses won't be allowed to go bankrupt.(ie -postal service)

It's a perfectly fair comparison.

If you'd like to discuss the postal service, and it's union, we can. Believe me, I've studied that monstrosity for well on 3 years now, and while the union is to blame (slightly) for the USPS problems. The VAST and OVERWHELMING majority lies in the PO's 2 major leaders: Congress and Post Masters.

If you want to fix the Post office here are the things you need to do.

#1. Layoff 10% of management. Management has proven time and time again they are incompetant, bullies, and nepotists. Management is at WAR with their workers on a daily basis.
#2. Reduce pay of all workers by 10%
#3. Get rid of the prepaid retirement. This is the single BIGGEST cause of the USPS' debt. NO ONE in any company should be forced to pay for workers' retirement who are NOT EVEN BORN YET. That's right, prefund retirement for 75 years is the current obligation.
#4. Dissolve the unions and reform under 1 union. There is absolutely no reason to have so many unions. In Chatsworth alone, there are at LEAST 3 unions. I'm guessing there are more, but I don't know specifically.
#5. Performance based raises instead of guaranteed yearly COLA raises.
#6. Remove the limitation on stamp price increases. Have a one time adjustment on stamp prices so they don't have to follow inflation. 44 cents to send a letter to Afghanistan is WAY too cheap.

But hey, that's just from a guy with an outside perspective. What do I know?

Nothing the Government does works efficiently because there is no profit motive, no ability to fail and most of the jobs were created to buy votes.
The reason the Post Office is failing and has always failed is because it is run by the Government and people like you want more Government.Same reason the Public Schools are failing, Medicare and SS are failing. The areas where the Govt. does perform better spend twice as much as it would cost the private sector to do the same thing including the Military. The vaunted GM salvage that Obama Brags about all the time cost taxpayers about $400,000 per job.
The junker buy back cost taxpayers about $25,000 per vehicle. The list of Government failures is endless.
Why would anyone possibly want more Government?
