What a tragedy! People, please remember we've had some circumstances here in our own community recently that should humble us enough to realize how precious our children are. Our children will hear about this and they will have questions. Our respones are and will be important. All the things that seem so important on topix that are debated back and forth are really so unimportant when we become honest with ourselves. I can't imagine the pain these siblings, parents, grandparents and familes must be enduring. Today, this weekend, I hope that topix posters will dedicate themselves to refrain from our petty grumbles out of repect to those innocent lives that were taken yesterday. For those of you who believe in prayer, please pray for these families. Pray for wisdom in how to respond to our children's questions. Hug your babies today, no matter how old they are, and thank God for them. The gift of being a loving caring parent, who is responsible for our children, is the greatest gift any of us can give our children this Christmas and everyday.

This is a terrible tragedy . It has shaken me to the core. All prayers go out to the families of these children. It makes me wonder what can be done to avoid something like this in the future. Is it stronger gun control laws ? Is it a stronger security system at our schools ? Is it both and other areas I failed to mention ? I'm for whatever will stop this pointless loss of innocent lives. God Bless those families that are hurting tonight.

I really don't believe anything can be done to assure full safety for our children in school. Even locking the doors to keep people out there is still the risk from within. Metal detectors are the only way to minimize the inside risk. I wish there were answers to prevent this from ever happening again. Our children deserve nothing less than a chance to be educated daily without endangering their lives. Praying for the families of the children and praying we here in Murray never come close to something of like what happened in Ct.

What's a metal detector going to do? They didn't LET this guy in. He forced his way in. I mean, look around at the high schools in our area. A prospector shooter doesn't HAVE to go through the front door. They can shoot out the window and climb in that way if they want.

Look at a similar situation that just happened in China. 22 kids were hurt there when a guy wielding a knife started slashing people. What's the difference? Not a single kid died. There should be tighter gun control laws, but it won't happen in my lifetime. Also notice, I used the word CONTROL not BANISHMENT.

Notice I did say minimize with the metal detectors but even tighter gun control laws willl not stop a determined individual intent on destroying innocent lives. It also would only minimize the possibility to a certain extent.

What this nation needs to do is turn back to God and repent.

Listening to many professionals regarding this horrific incident I was shocked to hear the lack of mental health care in our country. This was a very sick evil individual and nothing was going to stop him.

Stronger gun control would not have mattered in this situation. It is being reported that the weapons were all legal and purchased by the shooters mother who had a perfect back ground. She was a gun collector and enjoyed target shooting. My question is why did she take him with her , as it is being reported...if she knew he had any mental issues?

Unfortunatly , nothing short of a prison would keep our children safe.

When I grew up here and went to high school we had our guns in our gun racks of our trucks . Sometimes went hunting before or after school. Not once did someone use a weapon to hurt someone or even think of doing such a horrible act . I believe it is the culture of our country today that is causing such evil.

I though you said before that god knows all and there was a reason for everytime that he let's like this happen.Make up your mind, who knows maybe this mentally ill person had been listening to someone like you and though he was sending these kids to be with god in a better place. This very well could also be the reason a lot of mentally ill teenagers commit suicide ,they don't like the way they are treated here ,so they decide they would be better off living with god."itsme" sometimes you need to do something besides pray,I believe he helps those who help themselves.I hunt ,I fish, and I love the out doors as much as any man that ever lived or ever will.I also believe the best gun control is knowing how to shoot stright and if you do you do not need a assault rifle for selfdefence, but it sure looks like we are going to go through the very same thing all over again. It will not help as it did not the last time, but will give the republican's something to bitch about.

Thousands of gun control laws on the books. If a person wants to kill you they can do it.
People get drunk and kill people in cars every day. Do you want to take everyone's car away from them? That is twisted logic.
Any automatic "hunting" rifle will do just as much damage as any assault rifle. The ignorant people that write the laws don't know the difference, they have see too many movies and think an assault rifle is more dangerous than a hunting rifle.
The 2nd amemdment has nothing to do with hunting, hunting is a privilidge to keep and bear arms is a right.
Most of these kids were 5 or 6. 6 years ago you lefties didn't give a rats's ass about these kids. For something you call a "choice" it was ok with you to tear them apart with forceps and flush them down the toilet, now six your later you really, really care. What a bunch of hypocrites.

bobbie oh bobbie you poor little thing you still have not realised it was the righties of the scotus that made abortion the law of the land,it is the righties that want a hundred round rifle to hit one target,it is the righties that don't want to pay for mental health issues,it is the righties that can kill abortion at a moment's notice and at anytime they chose to do so and they are the only people on earth that can stop it .The righties control the scotus at this time why do they not stop abortion bobbie,it's because they want abortion bobbie so people like you don't won't have to pay taxes to help keep them up after they get here bobbie.A hunting rifle ,in case you are not old enough to have one or own one is not a assault rifle that shoots a hundred rounds a minute, there is no comparison between the two.bobbie oh bobbie where did you get your brilliant mind, you could a politician in the near future, your qualified now.
I wonder

"Take him with her"...where????
He shot her at home then went to the school,
or did you mean take him target shooting with her????
Sorry for my confusion, but I reread your post
and still wasn't sure about it.
The best thing is to ask if one isn't sure, right????

There is no logical reason to ever sell semi automatic guns to the general public. None.

The truth is we may need these weapons some day to fight the tyranny of the U.S government.

Hire cops to protect schools? why? Make gun laws tougher? How? Why? What good would it do? The thing to do is stop giving in to pansy right wing sissies that want everything so politically correct. The best thing is to tell people to get over it when they are offended instead of allowing them to sue for millions. What we saw at that Elementary School was created by "us" and we are all to blame. This country should be ashamed for what it is had become. It will only get worse. Prayers extended to those that lost children in this massacre.

Redneck? Maybe! Is it that you call me names because we have a differing opinions or because you haven't any better answers?

More government is not the answer my friend.
