Why wouldn't they change the name to Chatsworth High School? Seriously, is there a Whitfield County High School....NO. I think the people in charge couldn't run a dog walking business.

Murray County High School has been in existence for 75 years. When the school was established they did not project to have to ever build another highschool due to the way population was growing. In Whitfield county there are two schools North West WHITFIELD and South East WHITFIELD. Many schools are named after there county. In gainsville where there is about 7 high schools, they have there county name in there school name. East Hall, North Hall, West Hall.. and etc. Why does Murray County need to be changed?

Murray County is Murray county as in all inclusive of the county. North WHITFIELD, Southeast WHITFIELD and all the Hall county schools have a distinguishing name...not Hall County or Whitfield county. Murray High is a city school...we have NORTH Murray and we need either Central Murray or Chatsworth.

Only a chatsworth high scholar from Trion would see it differently

Paulding County has North and East Paulding, but also Paulding Co. HS. No need to change MCHS's tradition. And I say that as somebody not originally from around here.

Go Indians!!!
Its been Murray County High School for 75 years. No need to change the name. Same school; same mascot. Any others can be named whatever they want, but Murray County High School needs to remain just that...Murray County High School.

Wilbur if you don't all of the accomplishments Murray County High School has obtained in the past 75 years then there is no need for you to comment on this forum. From academics to sports to fine arts to SAT and Graduation test scores, MCHS has excelled. Within that 75 years, it can only be expected to have the occasional mishaps, but overall that Murray has suceeded in what a school is intended to do.

Murray County has been around for 75 years. They have won state championships in basketball and wrestling. They have also won many more region championships in football, basketball, wrestling, and baseball. North Murray has not even started classes yet, but it somehow makes sense to you for Murray to change their name because there is "going" to be a North Murray High? What kind of moronic reasoning is that? North Murray chose their name. There was many other choices but they chose North Murray. That's fine, but it is laughable to think Murray should change.

They haven't won a team state championship in 40 years! Never will again and neither will North Murray. There is no foundation in this county from rec ball up to ever produce winners again. This county doesn't have the athletes to compete and the parent coaching in younger years is a joke and does more harm than good.

There's also a distinct lack of good competition around. I know I probably shouldn't say so at a point when we're not even beating the local teams, but nobody around here is good enough to make US good enough to beat teams from Atlanta. And we don't have the numbers, the facilities, or the coaching expertise that other places have.

So, sad to say, but I think joker's probably right.

I believe Murray won a state championship or two in wrestling in the last 40 years

An individual and a state championship is two different stories. Wrestling has had individual but we can't round up a group of athletes to win.

Obviously Hannah Montana didnt attend the graduation last year. 461 students graduated from Murray County High School. That is the largest graduating class ever to come through Murray County High School.

Perhaps Hannah Montana was looking at their state test scores in which MCHS scored below the state average in EVERY category.
