Why hasn't this guy been executed yet??? We, taxpayers, have been paying with our tax money to keep this scum*** alive for 40 years. Is this gonna go on and on until he becomes senile and dies of natural causes????

Same goes with Sirhan Sirhan.

I voted no/ Why the system waited 40 years to execute him? He has costed thousand of dollars to tax payers; why would you kill this man now, when he has only few more years to live?

The system doesn't and will never know how to punish a criminal! Its either too much or not enough. This man should have died 40 years ago. How many inmates are in death row? 10? 20? 40?.... Killing Manson is like a second punishment.

He has not been executed because in 1972, the California Supreme Court found that the death penalty constituted cruel and unusual punishment under the state constitution. As a result, 107 individuals had their sentences changed to other than death. In November 1972, nine months after the decision, the California electorate amended the state constitution and overruled the State Supreme Court.

Subsequent California and Federal Supreme Court Decisions have flopped back and forth, however once the sentence has been reduced to other than death it can never be changes so each time it was thrown out another bunch got reduced sentences.

Having study this subject matter, the system failed Charles Mason, period. Read the book called, Sleeping in the playtime of others. His story of his beginning and when he was released from prision what he told the parole board. This will give you some prespective on how the system/or society for that matter failed him. You must be able to understand what he a young lad at 6yrs had to endure. Does this excuse his action, no. Nevertheless, our system must learn for this, and find ways to prevent such an act. I don't understand why this story is being printed. Lives where lost, and we don't need to relive this nightmare, but we do need to understand how this nightmare began.

Poor Charlie, failed by the system. It worked wonderfully for Tate and the others. Why is life so unfair?

I think that Charles Mason got off easy with a life sentence. He should have been exicuted long ago . Instead of hard working taxpayers taking care of him for the last 40years.he will rot in Hell....
I do have sympathy for Susan Akins. I really think she deserves to go home to her family and die in peace, She paid for her crimes and with her medical condition who will she harm... She comes up for parole again on September 2nd and i hope that someone at the hearing will be sympathetic enough to say Send her home..

Why have sympathy for Susan? She too was given the death penalty and has not been executed. I think that is sympathy enough. Keep her in jail and light candels for those she helped kill.

Maybe Manson wasn't executed because the illiterate people posting in this comments section were on the jury. I agree with the sentiment though. He is a WASTE of space and it's a shame the touchy-feely, new-ager, ganja-guru followers messed up the laws conveniently at a time when one of humanity's worst examples came down the pike. Manson should have fried the day after his sentencing. He ranks among the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Bin Laden and maybe even Joe Jackson.

It's doubtful everyone here is over 60, much less were part of the jury. In any case, althought I was only a child then, I do remember the crimes, and lived only a stones throw away from Spahn ranch, so it is burned in my memory. Fact is, Bugliosi won the trial, and each and everyone of them were sentenced to death. Unfortunately, by 1972 California abolished the death penalty, and all were instead given life, with the possiblity of parole.
