Gay Detectives Mother Booted From Church

Elders at Ridgedale Church of Christ told Linda Cooper and two relatives that their public support for Kat Cooper, Linda Cooper's gay daughter, went against the church's teachings, local media reported. In a private meeting, reports say, Linda Cooper was given a choice: publicly atone for their transgressions or leave the church.
Linda left the church.
Kat Cooper is a detective with the Collegedale Police Department. This month, she fought successfully for health benefits for her same-sex spouse, Krista, from the town.
The Board of Commissioners passed a resolution allowing for same-sex partner benefits, becoming the first city in Tennessee to do so.
Along the way, the mother publicly supported her daughter. That support appears to have led to a rift with her church.
"My mother was up here and she sat beside me. That's it," Kat Cooper told the Times Free Press of Chattanooga. "Literally, they're exiling members for unconditionally loving their children - and even extended family members."
"Her answer to them ... is that she had committed no sin in her mind. Loving her daughter and supporting her family was not a sin," Kat Cooper's father, Hunt Cooper, told CNN affiliate WTVC. "There was nothing to repent about. They certainly couldn't judge her on that because that was between her and her God, and it was not their place to judge her for that."

I don't think it was a good idea for this church to ask the woman to leave. However, I can see that church coming under attack for their faith. Is there a war heating up against Christianity-yes there is. Freedom of religion is on it's way out the door. America will never be the same.

The gay marriage issue will prove to be more destructive than Islam I believe. I don't believe the woman committed a sin by supporting her daughter. I can also see the church's concerns. But yes, freedom of religion is coming to an end here.
BTW- we aren't told some details in this story. Tennessee doesn't recognize same sex marriage I don't think. Was this couple married somewhere else? Or just called themselves spouses? And the dad- he wasn't excommunicated. Is he a Christian? Does he agree with his wife?

I believe that freedom of religion is finally coming to fruition. Is is about time we started obeying the only law that governs everyone; US law.
It's not really that freedom of religion is coming to an end, it's just that Christians are no longer getting their way and it's something they are used to.
A question for you, Dave P. How can two people who love each other and want to share their lives with one another be more destructive than hijackers flying planes into skyscrapers? It doesn't make sense to me.

I do not feel sorry for Linda Cooper because she has been ousted from her church - her church is being honest when they say that support towards homosexuals is against their rules. Only strong minded Christians will be able to choose reality (gay daughter) over denial and their up-bringing that has taught them prejudice. I know some strong Christians, though - maybe more people will follow the example of Linda Cooper and accept that homosexual lifestyles are normal and right, regardless of what their religion has taught them and tries to force them to believe.
