Before the coyote expanded East from the Western usa, the wolf had nearly 20 million of its kind in the eastern united states...that was before whites came to america. now you whites killed the wolves off, so the coyote is able to replace the wolf and is moving east now [wolfs kill coyotes on sight in nature, no wolf = coyote expands].

SO, get used to them ! coyotes have been under the rifle since the 1800's by whitemen, and yet they never went extinct like the wolf did under the same circumstance. the coyote breeds to acommodate losses..so if you kill 2 coyotes, a coyote will increase its litter size from 5 to 7 to make up for it.

And besides, from a ecological standpoint, there has always been a canine around to keep deer populations in check...historically that has been the Wolf in the Eastern US, and the Coyote in the Western states...but since the wolf is gone, the coyote fills that gap.

Hey, I live in Front Royal. I jog regularly on Dickey Ridge, Skyline Drive. Been here for 10 years, have always heard the coyotes but never til a week ago saw one. Scared the *#@!* out of me! Wasn't growling or baring it's teeth at me, but actually followed me...on the trail...for about 1 minute! Longest minute of my life. What do I do if this happens again? For one I won't be jogging by myself at 6:20am on Dickey Ridge anytime soon :-)

Hi - I recently was approached by a coyote during an early morning jog. I jog with 2 small Whippet dogs. What type of protection do you suggest i carry for coyote sightings?

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Scorpio

Be careful how you handle a certain someone today because their mood is little short of incendiary. They'll jump down your throat if you dare to disagree with them, and then accuse you of being a wimp if you decide that it would be better to agree with everything they say. You can't win! If they really get on your wick, you'll have to give them a piece of your mind, even if it is supposed to be the season of goodwill to all men. Huh!
