A group of young men is accused of attacking a father who was trying to protect his 12-year-old daughter at Valleyfair.

This a a horrible crime but so are the comments here. Of course this is a hate crime. Just as important as the attack on the father is the fact that these men- all adults- thought that they could get away with touching a 12 year old girl. This crime should be all over the media not because of the color of anyone's skin but because a child was assaulted and then her father was when he came to her defense as well.
Leave the racist comments out and complain that it is not being covered so that the real story gets out instead of a story about Minnesotans not wanting minorities in thier state.

Our thoughts and prayers should go out to this family and I hope all of the "men" involved get jail time

I agree that we have to start looking beyond race as our first view of the crime. Yes, all of the perpetrators were of one race and the victim was of another, but I don't think that's what instigated the attack. I think it's clear that there is a lack of respect by young people in every race. Maybe we should be holding parents a little more accountable for the actions of their children, perhaps they would stop covering and enabling for them so much and let him face the consequences of their behaviors earlier in life before their actions build to something of this magnitude. What was a 14 year old doing out with this group? Where are his parents? What are we teaching our children at home?

My thoughts and prayers are with this family and also with the men who committed this horrible deed. I pray that they are sincerely touched with a conscience and will learn from this. Maybe even help others avoid it. I know it is wishful thinking, but somebody has to be hopeful, otherwise we may as well give up on a hope for a brighter future.

I sure would like to know all the facts here. I feel horrible about the state of our society if a general population walking away with this family does not provide assistance.

I do not believe it makes any difference if it was a black on white, black on black, any color on any color crime. This in itself is a horrible thing, the 2nd horrible thing is it continued to a point a man attempting to protect his family was almost killed.

A good samaritan with concealed carry, would they have been justified to discharge a weapon? It is not unrealistic they (8 people) intended significant bodily harm, perhaps death, and perhaps sexual assault of a minor.
