Is it me, average parent, or is it true that management is more interested in their own political situations, awards and future more than the need of the underpaid teacher’s classrooms, supplies and students? Why is it that some children continue on to middle school barely able to read and unable to perform simple mathematics like making change or the division of two candy bars between four children?
Is it true Mecklenburg imported teachers from other nations with tax dollars only to force them out because they were not from here? They were referred to as a “come here” and generally not expected to earn any tenure no matter how wonderful they can teach.
Why is it that some children fail in the classroom and yet are moved to the next grade where they fail on a greater scale? Yet the administration continues to receive awards for teaching and educating children some of whom cannot add or subtract? Are these award winners winning at the expense of our children’s future?
Why is it that some children are taught world history but cannot find that country on a globe? Why is there little or no respect between some faculty in the classroom, hallways or cafeteria? Some teachers are provided with anything needed for their classes and others must beg for the simple, basic necessities. Others have given up on their requests and pay for basics out of their own pockets or ask for donations.
Teachers have the serious responsibility of teaching our children. The children are our future. What will their capabilities be? When I was in elementary school we studied to pass a test. If we failed a grade we had to repeat it. That provided motivation to move on to the next grade. None wanted to be a failure in the eyes of their peers.
Every teacher should belong to the same team, the education team. The number one priority is the education of the future generation. Most achieve but the cold hard fact is that some fail. They need something more, perhaps to repeat a semester. Wouldn’t it be better to correct an educational error at this point than to correct it after a failed job interview, or worse, never corrected?
Wouldn’t it be better to reward teachers based on academics rather than friendship or family ties? The hands of teachers are tied. The students may never know the names of all the continents unless the question appears on the SOL test.
We have done this to ourselves! What is even worse is that we are doing it to our children. The school administration is beginning to look less like superintendents and principles and more like monarchies. We have all learned what happens when we disagree with the king or queen.
Our children are being cheated. I wonder what the drop out rate is in our community colleges due to a lack of proper education in K-12. Again, is it just me or have any others seen this too?
