Perhaps Chicago and other location with gun control laws that punish law abiding citizens could learn something from Va.

To "County Resident" Why do you think WVU is a moron? Prehaps your liberl slant won't allow you to own or purchase a weapon but that does not make the writer a moron for pointing facts that cannot be disputed. I grow tired of listening to those persons who will not or cannot use a weapon for self defense berate those persons who choose to defend their homes and family. Furthermore, the liberal press is now reporting the Conn. shootings were NOT commited with an AR 15 but rather with a hand gun. The AR 15 was found in the trunk of his car. Sort of resembles the Trayvon Martin case where the Press prints what they hope would be the case for their own agenda. The people of the great United States have the RIGHT to own and carry whatever weapon they so choose other than a fully automatic weapon which requires a Class 3 lic. Those citizens truly believe that our Founding Fathers knew that an unarmed public would make us slaves to the agendas of people who would diminish this great country. MOST of us pray that that won't happen!

With all the increase in gun ownership over the past few years - where or when are the new owners becoming familiar with their weapons? There are very few firing ranges in the area - someone could make a ton of money owning a range....oh wait! I forgot the Central Socialist Planning Committee of Charlottesville (aka City Council) would NEVER allow that, nor would the multitude of NIMBY residents of Albemarle County. Simply having a firearm is not a guarantee of safety, but a properly trained owner is a very strong deterrent. BTW - I have 7 firearms, and am very familiar and proficient with each.

You don't need a class 3 license to own a machinegun. You need to pass an FBI background investigation and pay a 200 dollar tax for the transfer of the weapon to you. I have two machineguns and I am an 'ordinary citizen'.

Yes, this is true unless you are a firearms dealer and have paid the 'Special Occupancy Tax' so you can deal in those types of weapons. You would be affectionately known as an 'FFL-SOT'. This law came about as the result of the ironically-named Firearm Owners Protection act of 1986 where a late-night 'sneaky' voting session caused our freedom to erode by taking away the right to own a 'new' machinegun. So, essentially, we can only own older machineguns like the 'evil' MAC-10 and Uzi, etc.

I wonder how many of these guns went out of state. In the past VA has been a conduit to NYC.

To expound on my prior comment, law abiding citizens bought guns here and sold them on the street in NYC for a tidy profit.

supply and demand make the prices go up.

The federal Govt is running a war on law abiding gun owners and the second amendment. Schools are brainwashing kids to fear guns and gun owners into thinking they are all bad people. Once this generation grows up they will surrender all weapons to the government. Then the Feds will crack down at will on it's people. The Federal and State governments do not represent the people but an agenda to disarm it's citizens.

Thanks and well stated Top Flight. County Resident is like many I have met in my life. They are the liberal left who claim to celebrate diversity and coexist until your opinion is different than theirs. They claim to stand for inclusion for all yet resort to name calling, playing the race and/or gender card, vandalism and dishonesty to those who hold opinions different from their own. I will not stoop to their level, but will recommend they look up the definition of hypocrisy.

The sad part, most dupes in this country are already slaves to corperate interests and the the Constitution has already been trashed and no one says boo, not the first person with a gun. Keep on carrying your dumb gun, in the meantime your rights will dwindle down to nothing.
