I would hope the group asked for and received permission to be on the train tracks. If not, Amtrak can charge each one of them and use the 29 video to prosecute them with.

I am inclined to believe that they did not receive permission even if they asked for it.

You people are disgusting there is a person who is missing! His family is worried. His friends are worried and you guys think instead of helping in any way possible you should be mean? How is that helpful and I hope that when it is your family you do not have to see disgusting comments like these because I would not wish that pain on anyone.

You sound ignorant. Somebody's child is missing and all you can think about is whether or not permission was given to search the tracks. Save your breath because you all you are producing is HOT air! Whatever happened to humanity.

I'm still trying to figure out if they are looking for a man or a woman.

This was an organized search party lead by a detective with the Charlottesville Police Department and experienced search party leaders. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to search today. The cooperation of the community is what is going to bring Dashad home.

Twice as interesting now. Wonder if this police detective asked for and received permission to have so many civilians wandering around on and in the middle of the train tracks. It wasn't that long ago that the Police Department was charging people for trespassing on train tracks at the University Corner area. Not to mention the double standards involved, walk 8 feet across tracks and get crimially charged at UVA, walk 500 yards in the middle of tracks in the city with immunity.

Why on earth would that matter?

Are you gender specific about the humans you have compassion for?

Don;t you think it would be trivial for the police to establish at what times trains are due, and for the train company to alert its drivers knowing a search is underway.

If it were truly so difficult to search train tracks, every murderer would be hiding bodies there.

You can search near and around train tracks without walking right down the middle of the tracks. It's just plain dangerous. And I am totally surprised a police department would take it upon themselves to escort people down the middle of train tracks.

This was organized by the city police, really do you serously think that they did not get permission, of course they did.

Yes, more of us are gender specific and it is used as a huge identification point, especially when searching for the missing.
Gender narrows the scope of the search; so knowing the that bit eliminates all those not of that gender.

In the upper photo they are walking on the NS main line. Just a few years ago recall the campaign to arrest people for merely crossing the 12 mph tracks near UVA corner or downtown.

The tracks they are on are CWR (continuously welded rail...quiet)....trains can be quiter and faster than you think. Be careful.

The lower photo is on the "old main line" that was the way to Washington DC, etc before the 1916 double tracking and relocation of the tracks. The old main line crossed Preston at Bodos. Last saw a train there in 2003 supplying fertilizer to Southern States.

I have not once heard the mother make reference to the missing persons wardrobe choices, alternate names, or gender ambiguity. Perhaps Cvilles finest can do some detecting on that and figure out that maybe the kid just up and left so they could be the person they want to be and not mamas boy.

The police defective sent volunteers on the rails so as not to risk his staff. Kind of like they send dogs after armed kooks. I guarantee the bypass was fully staffed with ticket writes.

You haven't heard? Or you didn't bother to look?

30 seconds is how long it took to find this:
Huff Post wrote:
Dashad Smith is known to dress as both a man and a woman. Smith's mother, Latasha Grooms, said her family refers to Dashad Smith as a "he" but said her child identifies with both genders.

"His Gay community says 'she' but his family still says 'he'. It does not bother him," she told The Huffington Post on Wednesday.
or this:
CBS wrote:
Police and family report that Smith occasionally wears women’s clothes and goes by the name Sage.
I saw quotes from both the kid's parents and they all sound pretty accepting.
Could it be that you have a bigger problem with this that Smith's family?

I hope this person is found safe and unharmed. It's hard to be a parent - the worry can eat you alive.

This is correct, I am. Because of the double standards in this area. When UVA students cross train tracks to get from point A to point B, they get arrested for trespassing. This arrest and conviction is on their records for the rest of their lives, and when they graduate and start seeking employment. But then a whole group of citizens can walk down the middle of the tracks and there are no arrests. And there seems to now be a police detective walking with them.

I'm not taking this missing person very serious yet. He/she is an adult. He/she most likely knows exactly where he/she is. He/she might not even know they are now considered to be a missing person. And if I packed up, left my spouse, and ran off with another mate, I would turn my cell phone off and toss it in the trash. So, a person not responding to or answering their cell phone is not a big clue of foul play.
