It did not happen at the intersection dork. Just right in front of the mall. As usual, folks traveling too fast, and too close to each other.

Those damn "tail gaters" cause more problems. I hope they got a ticket and it increases their car insurance. If were lucky they have enough points on their license to have it revoked!

Texting, again.

Hopefully, they weren't texting. But tailgating is dangerous too. It's just as dangerous as people who travel 10 miles below the speed limit in the left lane.

Texting and driving, might well be as dangerous as drinking and driving! And what's the deal with Charlottesville and tail gaters...? I just once, want to slam my brakes and let them hit me. I have kids in tow though and they may also, so I refrain.

Too fast? You kidding? If you can manage to get to go the speed limit, 45mph in this area, you look like Dale Earnhardt compared to most people going 15 to 18 mph. I'm telling you, they really go that slow and they think its ok. ITS NOT OK.

The horseless carriage was intended to speed travel but we are back down to horse speeds in too many places.

RED CLIGHT CAMERAS are the PROBLEM up there...so many times people SLAM on their BRAKES the second the light tunrs YELLOW!!!
I have now SIX "fines"....TOUGH, I am NOT paying them and will NEVER pay them!!!
I make a rapid decision when that light turns from GREEN to YELLOW if it is safer for me to "go thru" the light (based on whats behind me) OR to
STOP for the AMBER light!
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR on the camera system!!!
...and I do not think there is one legal thing
thy can do to me for NOT paying these SIX fines...
Does anyone know if there is ??

I still think the fear of the "ticket cameras" could have had a part in it but the BOS can't hear it they just see the money like the rescue squads.

Those cameras don't issue a ticket unless you go through it after the light changes to red.

The yellow light at the intersection lasts five seconds according to The Hook. The speed limit is 45mph.

45 mph is 66 feet per second. A five second yellow light means you can travel 330 feet before the light turns red.

VA code publishes stopping distances for automobiles. Your car is expected to be able to stop in 195 feet at 45mph.

The only ways to get a ticket is to ignore the fact the light has changed to yellow and continue driving, or to be speeding so much that your car can't stop in the five seconds (that would be in the region of 60mph).

Same kinda driver that sees an emergency light on the side of the road, and immediately pulls over to the next lane without even looking to see if a car is there already! The people that designed that law ought to be certified stupid for that decision! Tell people in Virginia they gotta pull over (if the next lane is clear), and 95% of the drivers think they HAVE to pull over right now....dumb

Could you tell us the exact speed? How many cars were lined up in the traffic jam? Green lights all the way to D.C.?

Only five seconds? No wonder people have been going through red lights for so many years.

a better response would be to get your hind parts moving or move over out of the way! It's the big one under your right foot.....push it!

I totally agree with you. Most only know to mimic what the car ahead is doing without question! See it all the time....creeping along way below the limit just waiting for the light to stop them so they can sit and pick their noses.
Jack the speed limits up and remove 1/2 the stop lights. Learn to drive! One of the first lessons I was taught in drivers ed was to DRIVE YOURSElf OUT OF A SITUATION....I have never taken that to mean using the brakes!

I expect something related to driving or your vehicle will need to be renewed in the not to distant future. Let us know how that turns out.
