good grief. "Bush protected us for seven years" talk about drinking the poison. Every estimate said terrorism INCREASED during his tenure, because of his asinine and misplaced war on the WRONG COUNTRY, he didn't catch Bin Laden, and our allies britain and spain both suffered devastating bombings, while our military was stretched to breaking, our economy went bust, and bin laden laughed all the way to the bank.

First place, you do not wage war on terrorists. Secondly, torture is designed by dictators to elicit FALSE CONFESSIONS - how you think that helps us, unless it helps your sadistic desires, I cannot fathom.

finally, I hate the flat tax. It is so stupid. The truely poor need our help. The truely rich can contribute to our society, to the society that allowed them to prosper.

I read these posts and think about years of de-investment in p ublic education. NO-one seems to h ave any common sense any more.
and investing in our own country will help us be stronger, to withstand the terrorists, both foreign and domestic.

and also, Sept. 11 happened EIGHT MONTHS into Bush's presidency, NOT SIX, and those were eight months when he and Cheney systematically ignored and dissed all warnings of immanent attack. The Aug. 11 2001 Presidents Daily Brief, so eloquently 'mentioned' by Condeleeza Rice under serious questining years later -what was that title oh yeah - BIN LADEN DETERMINED TO ATTACK INSIDE THE US. What was Bush's response? Ok,you have cya, now you can go...They dropped the ball, big time! I am not saying it is only their fault, but their attitude contributed to our vulnerability. and then the response to attack Iraq. So stupid. so horrible. to this date Cheney lies - just yesterday when he said he has formally called for declassification of memos, in response to Obamas actions - he was lieing! He asked for memo from the Library of Congress A MONTH EARLIER! sometimes I actually think Cheney is insane.

And how can you not fight terrorists?! What do you want to do go give them a hug? You can hug them then they will turn around and cut your head off after the hug. Please get a clue trace!!!

Seriously Clinton was in office for how many years before then and you mean to tell me its W's fault because he was in office at the time? Clinton was weak in the world's eyes and now Obama is showing weakness by being a soft bellied socialist who won't do what is needed to protact our country!!

hello! You don't know about Condi's and Bush's deliberate decision to not focus on terrorism despite Clinton's team leaving them with a message to pay attention to terrorism that has been characterized as 'having their hair on fire.' You don't know that we havent' caught Bin Laden and terrorism INCREASED under Bush and that he dropped the ballon most terrorism issues, like protecting nuclear facilities and ports, for his eight years...You are not aware of the International treaties against torture, or that saying if you don't torture them you are 'hugging ' them- that is just stupid. There are other options. And that once you stoop to torture you have become them, and they have won!. You don't know all that?

I'm sorry was there another attack on our soil after 9/11 and I missed it?! So you are going to tell me its okay for them to hack our heads off and we shouldn't do what is needed to protect our own?! If you are that against protecting our country please feel free to move right on out. I don't see you helping us pay off all the debt our elected officials have run up at our expense anyway.

You idiot! that is a non-sequitur - because we don't want to torture, we don't want to protect America. Stupid! Torture makes us less safe, you moron! Do you want to live in a lawless world? Is that the America you are protecting? Then I suggest you go find it somewhere else - the America I know, of Jefferson, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, of a tri-partate form of government, of successful elections - these are laws we live by. Habeus Corpus is a law, you moron! Not being allowed to torture is a LAW! I suggest you go and try Somalia - that is the country you seem to want - goodby and good riddance.

Name calling trace you show your lack of maturity more and more. Please bring me back a leprachaun from the fantasy world you live in. I hate to break it to you but in the real world its kill or be killed. Do you think everyone wants to torture other humans?! Of course not. But when it comes down to either they kill us, or we kill them before they get a chance to kill us because we know that is what they want to do, they go every time. That is just reality so grow up and deal with it.

That is exactly where more of our money should be going instead of to bonuses for big business and support people on welfare that can work and earn for themselves.

I'm not sure why you're calling people names, but it certainly isn't going to prove your point. By the way, I'm pretty sure we shouldn't be torturing prisoners either, but that's a tiny piece of our problem.

As far as taxes go, the flat tax IS THE RIGHT ANSWER. The rich WILL be paying more taxes. Thye will buy more. Also, and this may take things a little farther than some would like, but I believe this tax should cover ALL purchases, including cars and houses. The wealthy, then, would DEFINATELY be paying more taxes. I don't, however, believe anyone wins when the poor pay NO taxes. If they improve their situations, they will still only be taxed on their consumption, so there's nothing to hold them back.

This is all pipe dreams anyways. It doesn't matter what party is in charge, they ALL want a beaurocratic order, and a flat tax would take some of that away.

So are you going to pay for the increase in taxes? What needs to be done is make those that can work get out there and get a job and stop livnig off a system designed to help those that truly need it. How are higher taxes going to help when those that are spending the money do it unwisely? All it will do is give them more money to waste!!

No, the tea party (which is what this thread is about) protested the stimulus plan and the billions of dollars that the taxpayers will have to fund. NOT the current tax rate. If you think this will be paid back with a 39% tax rate, you are mistaken. Socialist societies seek to provide the same benefits for all residents and those that have provide to those who don't. The U.S. is providing to illegals and democrats want to give them amnesty and make them citizens so that they'll get even more. Who do you think is going to pay for that -- ALL of us. And the services those of us who have worked for to receive will be lessened to provide for those who don't. Ask any Canadian how long it takes to get a needed surgery. The rich will be able to pay and get it done ASAP. The rest of us will wait in line. I am fortunate enough to have worked jobs that provide insurance -- sometimes they have been crappy jobs, but I worked everyday because I know I need insurance and want to pay my bills. With some of these idealistic goals of Democrats, we'll all be equally without -- unless you are wealthy. I am NOT. Do not believe them, honey. The politicians will have the best insurance and health care -- you will NOT. They already do. Also, do you realize that Ms. Pelosi and other Dems are saying that those of us who have put money into our personal 401k plans should share them with those who don't? My puny 401k has already been devalued to about half, and retirement seems like a pipe dream. And bailing out the mortgages of those who didn't think a fixed mortgage was prudent rubs me the wrong way because I have been paying a fixed mortgage on a very small house and these people have huge houses they probably couldn't afford in the first place. So we are bailing people out that probably didn't qualify for loans in the first place -- but Clinton felt that not enough minorities and disadvantaged people were owning homes, so the banks got incentives to give mortgages to those groups. Now here we are bailing them out. In effect, Mom, we will be paying for housing and a whole lot more that is a bottomless pit. That is what the tea parties were about. Not the current tax rate. Oh -- and enjoy it while it lasts. That tax rate is NOT the only tax you are paying. So far, the cigarette industry has been hit hard. Next will be ammunition. I hear even "sweet" sodas are going to be taxed additionally. Gasoline has taxes. Keep thinking you are only paying 39%. It is just beginning. And not just the very rich are going to pay. Tax breaks can be had for buying a new car -- can you afford that? I sure can't. My car is 11 years old. Wake up people.

Sir or Madam, you have expressed my thoughts exactly. I worked for one of those banks that had a department aimed directly at providing loans to low income home buyers. I'm not saying this was the policy at my bank, but not a lot of people realize that many lenders made little or no effort to verify income for some of these individuals. People were buying houses way above their means, paying little or no interest initially. Banks and mortgage companies were making these loans under direct pressure from the government. Everyone should have realized that eventualy the you know what was going to hit the fan. Now, the American public is expected to pay for these mistakes now and way into the future. Of course, these mortgages are not the only problem with the economy. This country, both the government and private individuals, have spent like money is only paper
