"We must have a society that lifts all boats..." is pure liberal BS. Wake up! Our society is in no way responsible for supporting those who are capable of supporting themselves, but who choose not to.

wow, cville gordo, you have not seen the world at all, have you? First off, we are all going to benefit from everyone being better educated. Secondly, when you are born somewhere like Cabrini Green in Chicago, beleive me, the cards are marked against you. We need to help these people because it will help everyone in the long, and even the short run...I advise a trip to the Wertland St. area in charlottesville, maybe work some food kitchens or just take the bus for once - you will meet the other half.

Well, in fact I have indeed seen the world; and I have also been the "other half" myself - 8 years languishing on hourly jobs after dropping out of college until I came to my senses and went back and finished. So thanks not to taxpayer-funded social programs but to my own hard work, I earned what I have today.

no, dear dark side, Obama is spending on programs to help our society get out of the debacle of the past eight
So he is doing the same thing W did to get us out of the same problem?! How is more and more spending going to help anything? You keep missing the point that he is NOT BEING RESPONSIBLE with our money. I didn't like the first stimulus and I like this one even less. When you keep spending like he is the middle class is going to be the ones stuck with the bill at the end of it all. Did you miss the point where they wrote into the stimulus that the very rich at AIG got bonuses paid for by our tax dollars. Obama is just helping the very rich and those the Democraps made them give money to.

We need daily tea parties until they abolish all taxes! Then maybe the governemnt can start working to do stuff again instead of spending all their time taxing us!

Just do me a favor - don't drive on roads, don't drink water, don't eat food, don't use the police, and don't go to any parks, particularly the National ones.
And if you think weight years on min. wage in any way compares to the truely poor, that is probably why you think republican tax plans can benefit you, instead of the truely rich. You are innocent about the true parameters of life in our world...Oh well.

she means 'eight years on minimum wage' not 'weight' years..hee hee..minimum wage is pretty bad. But the underclass never even makes it that far. They are in jail by the time they are 13...

What "stuff" is the government going to start working to do if they collect no taxes? At least next time try to make sense. That might happen if you hang out with people that live in reality not at mass tea baggings.

The reality is that we are taxed to death! All taxes should be abolished! Then we will finally have a responsible government. The only president who ever cared was Bush because he gave out tax cuts and tax checks! What has Obama doen but raised taxes on bullets and food and raised the gas prices too! We need a revolution so we can have a good government that gives us money again!

OK if we abolish all taxes as you suggest we won't have any government. Is that what you want? And I agree Cutting taxes could be a good thing but it's not very responsible while your trying to wage two wars. I will give you credit for getting all your news and talking points from Rush and Fixed news. Your blatant lack of a coherent thought process is stunning.

Obama is helping the very wealthy. My tax dollars just paid for millions in bonuses and union fees for big businesses. I haven't seen that $13 a week in my check yet have you?! And I pay for my rights to use all those resources which are not being taken care of properly with the money I pay in taxes already. Do you have a clue what you are talking about or do you just follow the rest of the flock? I am all for paying my fair share as long as it is managed properly which it is not being done.

Your tax dollars as relating to the baliout funds as far as I know paid for our society to keep functioning. Read about Sept. 18 of 2008, that is when it all was on the verge of collapse. If your are unable to contain more than one idea in your head at a time, perhaps you think your tax dollars are only paying for the bailout. And yes, we certainly need to re-prioritize - more money for parks, for infrastructure, education - less money for war, which was Bush's big contribution to our culture, aside from Torture. Obama is attempting to turn the tax dollars from the war towards things that are important to us as a society - environmental conservation, dealing with global warming....Just saying taxes are bad, when the TOP RATE is 34%, IS STUPID.

Trace, actually, I for one can keep more than one idea in my head though many citizens of this country are fast demonstrating that they now have their heads in the sand. I know there are many serious problems facing our country from aging infrastructure to the economy, etc. I also know there are still individuals out there who work and pray for our destruction each and every day. We can all believe and hope we are no longer in danger, but that doesn't make it so. I'm not saying the issues you brought up are not important, but we as a country have to remain aware that those individuals who have sworn to destroy the United States are have proven before that they are very patient, much more patient than the American public. They have no problem waiting 10 or 20 years, until they think we are no longer vigilant. We have to worry about ALL problems facing this country, not just the social, environmental and economic problems.

The "torture" that you and the rest of the deranged Bush Haters are howling about is exactly what all special forces and aircrew members experience in the US Military, in training. No one gets hurt. The same people that you think we should not put in stress positions, confine to small rooms, or waterboard will gleefully behead you if they get half a chance. Maybe they will let you hold their hands and sing "Kumbaya" first, since you are their friend, but they will still behead with a kitchen knife you when you are done singing. The left is so hopelessly delusional in this country, and you are a classic example.

dear accountabilitly, did you just start reading papers one month ago? You don't realize how Bush trampled our constitution and sullied our name with torture and pre-emptive war philosophy, not signing anti-ballistic missile treaty, and on and on...you don't know about all that? And please - bush set up the first 350billion TARP with his buddy Paulson. We got no more than 66 cents onthe dollar with that fiasco, and Obama is trying for better..and more accountabililty...You can't just start history when you want it. Remember, Bush inherited a BUDGET SURPLUS! We were going to have a LOCK-BOX FOR SOCIAL SECURITY MONEY, with that surplus, if Gore had been allowed to take his rightful place according to a majority of voters...wow, are you off...perhaps you are young...that could be an excuse for not knowing what happened last year....
Mom in Fresno: I believe it is YOU that has been reading too much Daily Kos/Move-on.org! Bush was 6 months into his presidency when 9/11 occurred--and devastated our economy and evaporating any "surplus". Yet, he navigated us out of it. Bill Clinton set us up on that one. Now, torture or not, George Bush kept us safe for over 7 years--something Obama will not do, and something our Islamic enemies routinely do. His policies, apologies and weakness have set us up for another attack--I prey I am wrong. One more thing, there has NEVER been ONE credible recount that had Al Gore winning Florida. Go ahead, find one. They only way he could have won is that if some ballots in some counties would have been counted, others not. Remember his motion he filed to not count military ballots? That is why the Supreme Court ruled fairly as it did. Al Gore would have been a disaster for America. He doesn't even practice what says concerning "climate change." Obama and his Tax Cheat Geithner can redo Paulson's TARP mess anytime they want to. This is THEIR TAR BABY!

I guess I'll weigh in with my two cents. CP, I'm not sure what you are smoking, but just because companies are in trouble does not mean their CEOs are democrats. I'd like to see you PROVE that three CEOs of these large corporations are dems. You wont, because you can't. You were just speaking out of your butt, which is unusual for you.....you usually make a little more sense.

On the tax thing, I persaonally believe there should be a flat tax. It's fair, honest, and gets everyone based on what they spend. Plus, it would sure save us a lot of money in govt employees!

Here is my suggestion:

Term limits for congress with NO retirement packages.

Time limits for welfare/free housing as there is for unemployment (except for disableds and elderly). No increase in welfare for having additional children.

Heavily fine employers caught hiring illegals.

Deport illegals instead of providing them with free hospital and other services (and STOP giving citizenship to illegals when they come over here and have a baby -- if you think this isn't a problem, ask someone who lives in Arizona, etc.).

Encourage our youth to save their money instead of blowing it on gadgets if they can't afford them.

There are other ideas, but you get the drift. Stop the free rides and save our country!

I'm pretty good with most of those ideas. I do think congressmen and women deserve SOME sort of retirement. They should have to serve TEN years minimum (5 terms in the house, two in the senate) to get a HALF retirement. To continue with that, they should have to serve TWENTY years to get a FULL retirement. If you've been able to withstand the blender in Washington for that long, and be somewhat succesfull, you deserve a retirement. Public service does NOT mean you are doing charity work....you are doing (hopefully) the important business of helping to run our country. Conversely, if you serve only two terms in the house (4 yrs), you obviously weren't very good at your job, and certainly don't deserve a congressional pension. The President, however, DOES deserve a pension. There isn't a job with more pressure than that, so it deserves the benefits to go with it.

Also, I firmly believe that any one who goes to war for us deserves a pension. That's not to say that ALL military deserve a pension for four years of service, but if you put your but on the line because a bunch of folks in suits say you need to, doesn't it stand to reason that you should get a pension, too?(Some sort of version of how much they made when they left). I know it sounds expensive, but I also think it would make our government think twice everytime it wants to start, or get involved with a conflict.

Sorry for getting a little off subject, but these are all things we're paying for.
