The sheriff's office says no criminal charges are being filed in this case,<<<<

Why not? Aren`t the dog owners responsible for the actions of their dogs?

The absence of a leash law relieves the dog owners of their responsibility? Ridiculous.

What if a small child were mauled to death, still no criminal charges?

There has to be some criminal code that applies; dangerous dog, etc. Jeff Haislip's office is special prosecutor on the Jimmy Dummer case is there enough horsepower still present to address Fluvanna matters?

No amount of money can replace my babies, take away the horrific images in my mind, or ease the pain in my heart. My herd was decimated in a matter of minutes, all because those two dogs were let out to run unsupervised. I appreciate everyone's support. The important thing here, and the only reason I contacted the station, is to make people realize that they have to be responsible for their dogs. If you love them, keep them at home!

Mix breeds from what we could tell. We've heard nothing from the owners at this point, so I have no idea. I had never seen those dogs before Tuesday morning.

This is terrible. Irresponsible humans let their dogs run free and ended up causing all this heartbreak.

Trish,
So sorry about the loss of your animals. Shame on the owners for not coming to you to say they are sorry for what their dogs have done. I personally believe all dogs should be leashed and not able to come unattended onto the property of others. Maybe your situation will help bring to others attention the pain something like this can cause and they will be more careful with there own animals. Prayers for you and your husband........

If it had been my dogs, I would have been devastated, but would have placed the blame where it belonged, on myself. I would have also done the right thing - gone to the other party, apologized, and asked what I could do to make things right. I don't blame the dogs, I blame the owners. Six lives were lost that day - my two pregnant does, the kids those does were carrying, and the two dogs - and it was all so easily preventable.

The owners of those dogs don't have the right to grieve for their loss and have no business owning dogs. When you own an animal, you take on the responsibility to take care of it, provide for it, protect it and keep it secured for it's own safety and protection. If they cared about their dogs at all, they would have been securely at home where the belonged and NO animals would be dead or hurt now. If feel sorry for the family and their goats, I feel sorry for the dogs that had to be put down that their owners didn't care enough to take care of them, but the owners deserve anything they get.

Trish,
Your Husband did the right thing under the law. It is most unfortunate that many dog owners do not realize that they are responsible for their dogs actions when live stock are involved to include reimbursment. Dogs harassing live stock are legal to shoot in this state and do not have to attack the live stock to fall into this category. This is due to the risk of cattle, sheep and goats aborting or not settling to breed. Further, if the owners cannot be identifed you are entitled to be reimbursed by the county by law [this funding is usually from dog license fees]. So all of you out there with unlicensed dogs you are also causing issues.
All need to keep in mind where your food supply comes from and how difficult it is to care for animals even if you are one of the irresponsible dog owners.

Unfortunately for Trish and her Husband they will be distrubed by dogs barking near there farm. I know this from experience [just keep in mind bullets work].

What if it was a small child who was mauled? What parent would be okay with this no leash law then? Why doesn't Fluvanna have a leash law? I have dogs and I have a fenced area for them. The owners of the dog should face charges and Fluvanna should pass a leash law.

Our biggest fear now is that the injured doe will reabsorb or abort her kids. She always gives triplets, so that will be another 3 lives lost to this senseless attack. Not only was she severely stressed and injured, but had to be given doses of sedative and pain killers the day of the attack. The vet had to remove part of her ear that was torn by the dogs, and also treated the puncture wounds in the large muscles of her back legs. She was on antibiotics and pain killers for days following the attack, and is still favoring her rear legs. However, we won't know anything until the spring when she's due to deliver.

We don't have a leash law in rural Albemarle, where I live either. One neighbor whose dogs do their business in my yard and kill cats. The other who "didn't move to the country to tie up my g-d dog", a pit bull who has charged through his electric "fence and threatened my child and my dog (on a leash). another had five - yes five - all unregistered, who blocked traffic and harassed bicyclists and walkers. There ought to be a law!

It doesn't matter WHERE it happened; it's important that it happened at all. People need to learn to be responsible dog owners and keep their dogs on their own property.

Why not tell where this happened? Maybe because the people in this area do not give a iota about each other. Evidenced by the dog owner and your comment about it doesn't matter WHERE it happened.
NO neighborly love here in this area apparently!

Who wants to retaliate? Not me! It might be nice if your neighbors knew the danger around them too! Maybe I want to protect my family and pets also. This is disturbing and thinking it might be close by makes it worse.
