So not fair to current employee's.These are county employees, Once again, the county will just throw to the curb, COME ONE GREENE COUNTY, BE BETTER THAN THIS..... You are destroying the county's record. Greene County doesn't need to be a joke. I have seen schools cleaned by contract, Save something, Education here is becoming a JOKE and Now hire outside the County What another JOKE..... What is next???? The county could save ever piece of the school if wanted, but NO, they choose to keep taking away. With out county jobs in our schools and EDUCATION that is not right for our Children, why would anyone want to be here?? You want to be a growing community then act like it and save the jobs in the county and realize what we are loosing if you keep walking away from the community and keeping all staff employed and ALL student educated, meaning the proper staff for the students.

If it saves us money and the current custodians do not lose their jobs, I think it is worth looking into. To not investigate this option further would be irresponsible of our elected officials.

Just wait - they'll throw the card of "it's for the children" to get whatever they want. Shame on the school system for using the kids like they have.

What a joke. Get rid of some of those teacher aides who got their job by knowing someone in the school system. And out in public their children acts like idots. No respect for anyone. Greene County ought to be ashamed.

Some of those custodians are very close to retirement. If what has been suggested happens, they would loose the vested interest in a pension for which they have worked a long time for the county. That would be extremely unfair to the custodial staff - which has had to put up with cleaning up and/or repairing after some piggy, selfish, destructive kids in the school system. The bathrooms have had things broken or even torn from walls, kids spit in the halls like it was a NYC alleyway, and trash it in a similar manner. Water fountains broken so that they can play "hose down the other students" and saturating the floors. Obscenities, insults, and sexual bragging are etched onto any available surfaces. I have only mentioned some of the behaviors. This is the reality with which custodians have had to deal. I will listen to what they have to say, but I still believe in the custodial staff.

You sound bitter - did you apply and not get a position in the system? The children of the employees I know do not behave in the manner you describe. I do not believe you have any idea how hard the "aides" work at all! You ignorance is glaring...as is evidenced by the horrible grammar and spelling in your post.

Stop flaunting your ignorance. It is unbecoming, and is probably the reason you did not get the job if you did apply for one.

They may not lose their jobs, but they will lose their pensions from the school system if they are let go. Some have a fairly heavily vested interest in their pension from years of working at the school. Sure, the Board "saves" the money they would have had to pay retirees, but in the process they will screw over loyal workers who have been working for them for years. I call that faithless.

You are at the very least amusing, but mostly wrong. I AM a teachers assistant in Greene, and have been for 20 years...I know these people and I know the burdens placed on them every day in school. We have to work with and within state and federal mandates. A good number of assistants are placed in the "special" classes which required(lots of)mandatory paperwork for the state. These students are hard to handle in class sometimes and having just a teacher alone overburdens the teacher and cheats the students. They need another adult in the room with them. If you have never worked in a school system before then you have no idea what we do on a daily basis. It is so easy for those not in the know to criticize us. My work keeps me busy all day except for my 30 minute lunch. As for the pay...after 20 years of working here and running my own classroom I still take home less than $950.00 a month - and I run a highly specialized classroom by myself! So much for the glorious, high dollar paycheck. As for ruffling my feathers...it would take more than your ignorance to ruffle them. I usually tend to let ignorance speak for itself and not draw more attention to it - should have stuck to that policy. Besides, I have greater things to worry about than you...much greater...like my students. YOU mean less than nothing to me.

Yes, I agree with you. But corproate America is in it to make a profit...school systems are not a corporate entity. Profit is not why we do what we do. Sadly, the cost of running a school system is going up just like everything else. Greene is one of the smallest systems in the state with a very rural constituency and smaller tax base. As a result our pay scale is smaller, too, but I digress. If you were to run it like a coproration you would end up cheating those children out of that "first class education" the politicians love to say is available to all people no matter who they are or where they live.

Oh...and I forgot to let you know that my daughter graduated as Valedictorian from Greene. She paid for at least half of her college expenses herself and refuses to let her father and I pay any more than we already have. She is working in a hospital where she is considered a valuable member of the staff. She still routinely does volunteer work. She has never been in trouble and behaves like a decent person should behave. You could take a few lessons from her. Just because you had your "feathers ruffled" by a kid doesn't make it right or proper to resort to sweeping genrealizations about all of them.
