The one thing i found odd about TJ's is the fruit being sold by the piece.

I do like the uniqueness of some of their products though. Can't wait to add to the traffic!

Lots of Whole Foods bashing going on! My $.02 worth is that if you actually do "grocery shopping" at WF, you deserve the shellacking you will get at the register, or you really don't care about what you spend on groceries. If, on the other hand, you go in there for the lunch buffet, or for coffee beans, or baked goods, or deli (check out their meal deals), even produce; prices are fairly normal. Forget the fresh fish; while it looks spectacular, prices are even more so.

So here's my totally unbiased revue of Traders Joes and the new shopping mall I visited for the first time today. Buying bananas each? I don't think so. Other prices, marginally cheaper. The big deal? zero parking. Wait for the other stores to open and good luck getting in and out. Who ever approved the layout for this center dropped the ball. Someone told me that this store(Trader Joes) would be more convenient for those having to go to Short Pump. Me thinks Short Pump will be more convenient. Twas my first and last visit to this mall.

And don't forget about the No VA style theater. I went there for one movie. Ticket purchase windows OUTSIDE in the cold, An escalator to the concession stand and theaters that is ALSO outside (what happens when it rains/snows?), not enough covered parking to handle even two screens showing at the same time. You are completely correct, this is a fiasco. The only ones who will like this "mini northern va" in our midst is the people who will live in the apts. on the property. BTW, NONE of the housing will be "affordable" for the vast majority of Cville/Albemarle residents (can you say UVa grad students and rich out of towners?)

If you're a label reader, Trader Joe's nor Whole Foods is worth it. Go for the wine and specialty items. Whole Foods the same, but add in cheese, it's also the only place that I've found real Kona. Both use GMOs like everyone else (unless specifically labelled). Whole Foods produce is marginally better than Harris Teeters. Of course most want to do one stop shopping, so expect to pay more if one does.

My fav coffee is Sam's Member's Mark french roast 40oz for about $14 and change. It's the only thing I buy there. Kona is too mild for me, but it's no ka oi for what it is. I lived on the big island for 4 years, decades ago, and bought my fav coffee from a grower in Holualoa right from his shack on the road, plantation in back.

Try the WF $3 Merlot. I forget the label, but it's their cheapo stuff. It's pretty good for the money.
I'm gonna get a case of it, if its still there.

I disagree. Whole Foods "might" be cheaper on a few items, but Trader Joe's is overall definitely cheaper. I did a careful comparison of numerous items that I used to buy at Whole Foods and they were invariably significantly cheaper at Trader Joe's. Whole Foods and Food of All Nations will lose customers to Trader Joe's (I will be one of them).
