Most of the dogs with 'bad reputations' are only that way because of owners taking advantage of, and 'abusing', a particular breeds abilities.'Bull breeds' are no more inherently vicious than Border Collies just 'know' how to be agility dogs..they have to be TRAINED to use that. A lot of people play dress up with their smaller dogs; That does not mean that [they] are delicate, shivering little weenies! Often times the most snarky dogs are ones who are little, coddled and are taught that they always get their way...No 'rules', no training.
One of the most gentle, good with little kids and laid back dogs I ever had was a large German Shepherd (rescue), and they happen to be on the gratuitous list of 'not allowed' breeds in some communities. Conversely, a neighbor had a Cocker Spaniel who attacked 3 people and was eventually taken away from them. It was the 'owner' who encouraged the dog to be that way. Another former neighbor had encouraged her Dachshunds to be obnoxious and 'sic' people. They went, uncontrolled, after a little girl one day, while a friends Rottweiler ran to the kids rescue and stood between the dogs until help arrived. If you want protection, take lessons in how to fight for yourself and stop encouraging innocent animals to do it for you!

Why can't NBC29 just write the piece? Seriously? What if I don't want to watch the video? I guess that old fashion thing called "writing" doesn't exist anymore.

This is just another example of the dumbing down of America. People are so stupid they would rather waste 5 minutes watching a video when they could have spent 45 seconds reading the story with a nice still photo.

Blame the owner, not the breed. I agree with you, however, your ignorance on the subject of specific breed domestication (not that you are, just judging from your post) is just as detrimental. You are simply incorrect when you begin talking the inherent nature of dogs.
It is one thing to love and accept all breeds and to understand how to properly train and treat a dog. It is quite another to flat out ignore the instinctual nature of specific breeds. That is what gives breeds individuality and it is flat out stupid to act like it doesn’t matter.
All breeds can be wonderful, loving dogs but that doesn’t mean you treat and train each breed the same.

There are two types of dog people: a) the type that loves all dogs and showers all with too much affection, all the time. All dogs love that, right? b) the type that understands the appropriate time to ignore, discipline and give the dog affection. This type respects the different characteristics among the breeds and treats them with respect. This means they don't put pitbulls in certain environments that are just asking to be a bad idea (even if the dog is wonderful). This means they don't buy a "family dog" that belongs to a breed which is notoriously horrible for family environments, i.e. the border collie!

Which type do you think end up giving specific breeds a bad reputation? The stupid type, aka type A.

Pit bulls are just that sweet and very aware of whats going on around them thats why years ago they were young childrens care takers for the longest time. They are not bread to fight they just have alot of muscle and can do so. LIke I tell everyone that tells me they are bread to be mean ,{would you rather be bit one time or many times} a pit bull can bite once verces any other dog that can bite you 5 times In a amount of second so acually they may look mean but are less dangerous then any other dog due to the muscle of the animal they are acually slower they other dogs thats why they were cage fought they are not as fast.So in this paragraugh you have to think which dog would you rather have turned on you.i would rather have a pitt bull terier turn on me then any other dog. They are less agresive, slower, cant bite as many time per second, and easier to train. Ask any responsible owner of the pet they will tell you. Unlike there name people have gave them they are playfull, couch patatoes who are such big babys if raised corectly dnt even lik you to leave them alone.

I have had pit bulls for years now. I have yet to have one that is mean towards people or animals. Its like any other dog out it is in all how you treat them and raise them.
At this time i have a pit bull named Lindsey i got her from the C'ville SPCA. She is my my service dog for my social disorder i have. She goes with me to the stores and just like a dog for the blind. She stays be my side at all times.
SO WHEN PEOPLE LABEL THE PIT BULL BREED IT MAKES ME SO MAD BECAUSE PEOPLE RAISE THEM TO BE MEAN AND FIGHT WHEN THEY ARE SUCH SWEET AND LOVING DOGS. I WISH PEOPLE WOULD STOP LABELING THEM. ANY DOG CAN BE MEAN IF YOU RAISE IT TO BE THAT WAY.

Kinda like choosing to being shot several times with a .22 vs. one blast from a 12 gauge. The pit bull is the 12 gauge, and I can't say i'd prefer that. Yikes, what a choice.
The root causes remain the same: poorly cared for and unsocialized dogs, dogs used as guard dogs, and dogs that are left alone with young children.

Good dog Chilly! I say, bully dogs are loyal to those who adopt them and love them as they are.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of abuser owners when it comes to pit bulls.

However, the real problem is that for some reason people in lower demographics seem to be obsessed with having pit bulls. Besides getting into the various stereotypes and characterizations that belong to that demographic, it is not wonder that society has a poor view of pit bulls - To be blunt - even if the owners aren't abusive, they are total idiots!

Does anyone actually know anyone who is wealthy, succesful family man/woman that owns a pit bull? Of course not. Excluding pro athletes and various "celebrities" that cater to an uneducated demographic as their majority fan base(they are roughly the same thing, they just got lucky) you never see it.

I'm successful, responsible, and educated. I also own a pit bull. I know MANY other successful, responsible, and educated people that do as well.

Tina; I strongly recommend that you spend less time playing with pit bulls and more time in school. Although I'm guessing it is already to late for that.
