2 The other group--those who supported health care reform--were local residents. |

1 These people are enjoying public healthcare; it's called Medicare. |

2 And these are the people who fear (whether right or wrong is yet to be determined) that they will be the ones who will be penalized the most. Some of these individuals have worked all their lives, 40, 50 even 60 years, and fought for this country, now they could have their benefits cut to provide care to people who have made no effort to contribute anything of value for the good of this country. Instead, they take and take and take, and feel that they still aren't getting enough. |

1 I live right here in C'ville, and I went out of the way to write a letter of support to Rep. Perriello on his 'yea' vote. I'm glad to see that he is standing up for those who are in need of health care reform. And as someone already said, for many of the people who were there who were 65 or older, they already benefit from a public plan, Medicare. |

1 ---------- Perhaps they do, and they don't want to see their Medicare cut by $500 Billion and Medicare Advantage Plans to go away. This legislation would do that. How can you cut this much money from Medicare when it is already underfunded and scheduled to go bust in 2017? How stupid do you think we are here in the 5th district? READ THE BILL!!! |

1 Yes, but the legislation will eliminate the donut hole or gap for Medicare prescriptions. That's a godsend for my mother! |

The Do-Nothing bus is in back town again? Greed & Fear are a wonderful feed for all those golden age fanatics. What do they care if healtcare costs double in the next 10 years - they'll have their's for free anyway. Get back on the bus and head to Florida for the winter - again.

1 Actually, I was there and vote in this district. Most of the people opposed to this bill could not stay all morning and needed to get back to work to earn a living and their health benefits. I hope you all understand that this is not free healthcare and it will come with a price that America cannot afford. |

1 What he did was ensure that your health insurance premiums don't continue to sky rocket, your deductibles don't continue to climb, and your co-pays get back to a reasonable level. If you anit-democrat republicans could look outside of your blinders on individual issues, you would see that the health care system in this country IS broken. Is this the best plan that could be created? perhaps not, but its better than NO action. I really get tired of people who are so anti democrat that they cannot make indivudual decisions. No one has been able to show how this bill will hurt americans. Before you claim addition to the debt, please read review the findings by the non-partisan congressional budget office. anyone can put a spin on any bill - pro or con - but if you dont educate yourself independantly, you will get suckered. Thanks Tom, assuming you back out on the cap and trade, you will have my vote next year. |

1 The New York Times is reporting: "As health care legislation moves toward a crucial airing in the Senate, the White House is facing a growing revolt from some Democrats and analysts who say the bills Congress is considering do not fulfill President Obama’s promise to slow the runaway rise in health care spending....Mr. Obama has made cost containment a centerpiece of his health reform agenda, and in May he stood up at the White House with industry groups who pledged voluntary efforts to trim the growth of health care spending by 1.5 percent, or $2 trillion, over the next decade. But health economists say it is impossible to know whether the bills, including one passed by the House on Saturday night, would meet that goal, and many are skeptical that they even come close. Experts — including some who have consulted closely with the White House, like Dr. Denis A. Cortese, chief executive of the Mayo Clinic — say the measures take only baby steps toward revamping the current fee-for-service system, which drives up costs by paying health providers for each visit or procedure performed..." Medicare is NOT "free." The people who are now receiving it have been paying into it for most if not all their adult lives.
And, contrary to what many appear to believe, it doesn't even come close to covering everything. |
