Preferential treatment of any race is a bad idea.

How about "at the forefront" of reading, writing, and arithmetic?

If kids study really hard they could grow up and take jobs from other people from other countries! Let's say for example the president?

I'm disheartened that most articles on people of color in the Progress bring out negativity. Perhaps if we are more aware of the contribution a once enslaved people made to this country it will help us grow together. You'll find more than rap, baggy pants, and sports.

If you want the races to come together then you have to stop separating them with social engineering programs.

Two wrongs makes a right? Let me know when a liberal feel good program eliminates discrimination.

I think teaching black history as if it it a separate subject only divides our country. Schools teach about the Ancient Egyptians (African American History), Slavery, Harriet and the Underground Railroad, Ku Klux Klan, Frederick Douglass, Black Panthers, Malcolm X, Obama is mentioned in Government classes frequently, Imperialism, Rosa Parks, Civil Rights Movement, Martin Luther King Jr., Boycotts/sitin's. I am confused where how it is not being taught and why special emphasis has to be placed on it.

it's true, and it's exclusionary. The first slaves came during Jamestown, Black American history IS American history. How can we provide historical context if it isn't taught along side with the rest of American history? Black Americans are an integral part to American and US History, and that history should be inclusive.

Education is one thing, throwing up another flare is another. Context is pertinent but unfortunately this issue is taken well out of context for many.

Shouldn't he been referred to as Dr. Turner not Turner?

I think, if he was another color they would address him as Dr. Turner!
