quote: "Last year there were 280 DUI arrests in Albemarle County on Super Bowl Sunday."

This absolutely is NOT true. I fell out in the floor laughing when I read it. NBC29, you have to do better. If anybody in the police department told you this figure... they need to be prohibited from making future press releases by the chief.

I must raise the "BS" flag !!!!! Oh, "we're so concerned about alcohol abuse, drunk driving during or after a football game."

When I see a sobriety checkpoint in Charlottesville after a UVA football game - and some of the alumni tagged - then the police REALLY care about drunk driving. Because it will never happen.

280 stops - few DUI's --- remember, this a huge cashcow for the county. I bet there are dept. bonuses tied to it. SB Sunday DUI's - they have already budgeted into revenue numbers. A whole industry depends on DUI's, from law enforcement, to lawyers, attorneys, insurance companies, correctional facilities, etc. etc. they NEED DUI's. they WANT DUI's. Starve these leeches - drive sober.

Where do you get this crap. Lets see: officers for one night-$240 Jail Stay $100 DUI-$360 in fines ATTY-$1000 future insurance cost $3000 Commonwealth atty costs $50. Total-$4700. One DUI crash- can be from a $50 scrath to $1,000,000 in propery damage, personal injury and medical bills or loss of life. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH REVENUE! IT SAES LIFE AND PROPERTY! THE COUNTY MAKES $0

You're kind of right, the county probably makes the least - but money, and who makes it, is not an insignificant part of the equation. A DUI conviction is a financial wrecking ball. A typical DUI costs about $10,000 by the time you pay bail, fines, fees and insurance, even if you didn't hit anything or hurt anybody.

Looks like somebody removed the exaggerated 280 DUI Super Bowl arrests from last year.

Poor Marcella, cute as a button! But she will quickly learn to question figures when given to her by local law enforcement.

Your suggestion is not a new one. The county police already do this. And not just on special occasions.

I think the news should find out their names and post it all over the news and in the papers. Embarrass them. That's what the news casters should do. I bet alot of people would think twice before drinking and driving if they knew their names would get put out their. ITS JUST NOT WORTH IT, YOU COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONES BABY OR YOUR OWN,I SAW THE CAR SEAT. COME ON PEOPLE GET A BRAIN.

Getting caught driving drunk? It will never happen to me. How many have said that? But for all the events that take place where cops make an extra effort to catch drunk drivers it would appear the public at large has been doing a good job at obeying the law. I wish they would put a fraction of that effort to go after drug dealers.

It's not about catching or even discouraging drunk drivers.....It's generating revenue by writing tickets for bad inspection stickers, registrations, etc. Same as each and every other time they set up these quasi-Constitutional check points.

It has happened to a select of people, like Cynthia Neff! Also they do list drunk drivers names in newspapers. Maybe their pictures should be on billboards!!
