Now if they could only get rid of the board of visitors, uva might become something worth speaking of. Sullivan has done nothing since taking over, and the next non-Virginian they hire probably won't be any better.

Sounds like one, long-winded left-hand compliment to Ms. Sullivan. Since that's patently obvious, can't they stop dancing around the issue of her not being the right person for the job and say clearly what they want to do, besides dun people for more money?

Funny how having great sports teams is not among any of the stated objectives, yet that's where the serious donations go.

Shocking. The board knew her and vetted her before they hired hired her. Now they want to change directions? If they really want good change they should fire Littlepage. he has done little, except bring in more money by alienting long term local supporters by making them pay extra for the privilege of buying season tickets. Attendance under him has grown little if at all. The university will suffer loss of prestiege because of this. Maybe it deserves it. Too snobbish. UVA has lost my admiration and I hope many others too.

They need to recognize Thomas Jefferson is dead and stop living in the past. President Sullivan didn't make any big changes but on the same token if the "Board" doesn't like it nothing she wanted to do would move forward. It's the Boards way or no way. They know exactly what they want but that's kept close under their hats like everything else they do.

A fast-moving Board that feels it's "guided by Mr. Jefferson's inspirational vision" might want to recall that it took Jefferson many years a painstaking work to create the University of Virginia. In particular, when confronted with the major financial downturn that followed 1819, he didn't charge ahead with administrative force but, rather, restructured his ambitions to fit available resources. The result, one might argue, was a stronger institution over the long run.

At least she got a nice parting gift from the University...trip to china....This woman was a mistake hire from the git-go...she never fit in and didn't bring in the needed monies the university president is expected to bring in to the University....The University president is really nothing more than a high paid professional beggar if you really think about his/her role ....

Did she really have time to do anything or prove her worth? I think many people are concerned that the Board is looking for a scapegoat for impending bad news. Otherwise, as far as I can tell most people on the staff & faculty were either mildly happy with or indifferent to her since she has been in office for so little time. Certainly not enough time to grow to love, hate or despise her if you didn't already have preconceived notions. Will be curious to find out what were the specific issues that divided her from the board. If these turn out to be in any way political or a whiff of cya that will not sit well and will cripple U.Va's reputation.

Our work center spent $60,000 to paint and clean up for her tour and she only stayed for 45 minutes. Did we spend too much or was she worth it?

IT IS UP TO THE BOARD OF VISITORS to provide the strategic planning which serves as a blueprint for the next President. The Board of Visitors must get out of the clouds and define the lofty words they have put out. Without clear direction this will continue. Thanks to President Sullivan for her heroic efforts. Before the new hire please tell the alumni what five things will be the basis over the next two years to evaluate the new person. Pie in the sky is hard to deliver....what does all this proactive, move fast to keep up mean??????

She makes less than Pres of VCU and VT so doesn't sound outrageous to me. They'll probably have to pay the next pres more to agree to come into the middle of this buzzsaw.

Many top tier College presidents make much more than Sullivan. The OSU pres makes over a million with bonuses to boot. He is controversial ands puts his foot in his mouth everytime he speaks in public. He defended the embattled Footbal coach who resigned amid NCAA investigations.

Maybe Sullivan angered the athletic establishment at UVA in the Hughly debacle. Love's mother is filing a lawsuit against the athletic dept. and rightfully so. Littlepage has done nothing to enhance the program and has done little to increase attendance and has angered many local supporters who no must ante up hundreds more if they want tickets to a half full stadium. UA seems to be want a GUY who can hob nob with wealthy to get the big bucks. That is the name of the game now, anything that brings in the big bucks and the hell with the acadmics or keeping tuition low for the students. The board did not do its job when it needed someone to replace their boy John Casteen. Too bad they did not know where they were going before they hired Sullivan. Now it is clear, and I hope to them too now that it is too late. They want the money. Their motto should be in recruitung a new pres. "Show me the Money"

I don't think this is at issue here. Most of Sullivan's academic work is data driven, respected in her field, and not viewed as partisan. If anything, Casteen was much more susceptible to the "Me be PC" charge but he was liked by the BOV because he was good at fund-raising. The world is complicated that way, y'know?

Best decision the board has made, now, how about requiring her to take with her the minions she brought with her?

LOL, this isn't 1950. Your "regional concerns" are outdated and ridiculous. The job should go to the best and most qualified applicant, regardless of where they come from and regardless of their gender.
