Celebrate everyone else's culture and heritage but our own.

That is diversity in a nutshell.

Poor kids.

Absolutely agree with you! They do not need to forget OUR heritage! This is ridiculous! I sure hope someone represents our heritage! My tax dollars at work.
Hey, maybe if I go to another country they will host a "diversity heritage Night for me?! Do you think? I kind of doubt it! And yet they still criticize us...but still keep coming here. Ridiculous! People have fragmented and gappy minds. They just don't get it. People so blinded by this political correctness crap.

Such silliness. Our heritage includes where we (or our ancestors) came from.

But have you not been in a local school in a while? My second-grader recited the Gettysburg Address from memory in her last performance, which also included honoring Washington, Robinson, Keller, and Tubman. The idea that taking a small amount of time to look outward is somehow bad is how we end up with the xenophobes and bigots that prowl this site.

By the way, you can go to many countries and find 4th of July festivities or get a nice Thanksiving dinner couresy of the local expats. Few will care.

Oh my goodness, let us not celebrate our heritage, since its foundations are racism, slavery, and imperialism! May the gods of multiculturalism forbid--as well as the thought, speech, and religion, police.
Just my opinion

For the record, I have now removed all of the Swedish and English trinkets and mementos from my house. I ask forgiveness from those who saw this brazen display of my heritage as an afront to America and thank them for helping me see the folly of my ways.

I have also burnt my French, Italian, German, Spanish, Swedish, and Danish dictionaries, since those are of no use in this country.

I am now in the process of digging up the English Ivy in my yard, and I have put my Belgian waffle maker and Dutch oven on craigslist.

Shhh! Wait! I think I hear "God Bless America" playing in the distance!

I'll go one better. You won't catch English Muffins, French bread, or Canadian bacon in my basket. I'll stick with American meals from now on...Hungry Man, KFC, and Freedom Fries.

I have to admit to Swedish, German, and Englis heritage. Given Europe's history there may be a little Hun in there as well. The Enlish part of me doesn't like the Swedish part of me on account of the Swedish making slaves of the English and Irish (there is no Irish part of me to defend itself). The German part of me is just biding his time waiting for the others to lower their guard.

I'm seriously not giving up anything. I like food from everywhere. The best way to celebrate diversity is by eating. I don't really care to watch anyone's ethnic dances - especially Morris dancers. I like country music - from some countries but not others.

More seriously. I am fortunate to know what my heritage is. People get bent out of shape over black heritage celebrations. Think about that. If all the record can tell you about your history is that you are African, then what are you supposed to do? Where were you from? Nobody bats an eye if a Miss Italy is crowned in an Italian neighborhood. They think it's nice.

I can go back 500 years or more in Sweden, a couple of hundred in Germany, and a couple of hundred in England, and that's without a lot of effort. I am from everywhere, but I was born here. My great grandfather wasn't. I'm not going to look down on anyone else because they remember where they came from. I'll judge them on what they are doing now.

Chuckle.

The rest sums it up pretty well. Imagine having to give up your heritage just to conform to someone else's concept of "American".

Since I only have crosses and peanuts (No one wants to mark this as spam? What's wrong with you clowns?), I will state that I can trace my heritage back through the Hancocks (not John) all the way to the Mayflower, and therefore I have more right to judge Americanism than a fair lot of you interlopers.

As such, I hereby decree that in order to qualify as a True American (TM), you must do the following:

- attend church every Sunday, but secretly lust after the person in the pew in front of you,
- drive your SUV three blocks to school (while talking on the phone) so your kid doesn't have to walk, and then complain about all the 'entitled' people in this country,
- put two bumper stickers on your Volvo: one for the C'ville Covenant School, and one that reads, "I'll shove my carbon footprint up your liberal ass," <== I've seen this
- pray to the otherwise peaceful god of your choice that he (or she) annihilates the Middle East with a medium-sized meteor, and
- erase Africa from your map of the world and write "Dragons be there" in the empty space.

Now get off my lawn!
Sure

Those aren't my crosses and peanuts. I don't use those little cartoons to speak for me.

My qualifications are: voter, veteran, taxpayer. I have touched all the bases. I don't answer to anyone so I can say what I want. I'm also like this in real life, except that in real life you can see me smiling.

So we're gonna display our TM credentials, eh G luv? Let's play...

I'm a direct paternal descendant of the cannibalistic Cherokee chief Doublehead. Read up on him.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doublehead ).

Also one of my great great great great great uncles was a man named James Turner Barclay who just so happened to be the guy who bought MONTICELLO after the death of Jefferson.

I'm also a direct descendant of Thomas Barclay who negotiated a treaty with the sultan of Morocco in 1786 (one of our countries first international treaties) and was the first American diplomat to die in a foreign country while executing his duties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Barclay_ (diplomat)

So, I too, by your standards, am in a prime position to pass judgement as well. Therefore; I judge you should be a little more tolerant and kind towards your fellow citizens and quit being such a twerp.

Wave the Mexican or Gay Rainbow flag in the name of Diversity and Heritage. Wave the Confederate flag and be called a racist.

This sounds like a festival for liberals to celebrate everything except the "Diversity of Thought."

Actually, I thought that by celebrating many cultures, we DO celebrate "our" heritage.

Perhaps some of you wished to man a booth promoting slavery, the Chinese exclusion act, and our rich Klan heritage?
