Umm NBC29 leave it to you all to have the story all messed up. The truck driver is alive and expected to recover and the person driving the car (not the suv) passed away.

I drove by the crash a moment after it happened and before EMS or other rescue personnel arrived on the scene. A white work truck hit a green Subaru. I am pretty sure the driver fo tthe Subaru waas thhe driver killed. No one was in the truck when I drove by, but the drriver of the green Subaru was pinned in his car. There were people trying to help the guy in the car.

Next time NBC29 gets any journalistic awards, we need to ask them to return them.

Albemarle County police have recently released a press statement with full details of the accident. We have attached the release in the story and corrected our script. Thanks for your comments.

and you just drove by! didn't stop to assist and we wander what the world is coming to. You are an indecent human exhibited by your actions of not assisting in a time of greatest need. probably couldn't wait to text about it. I realize it may have been unpleasent to stop [I have been through it myself with bodies lying in the road] but that is no excuse. if anything maybe it would encourage you to lean a little first aid in the future.

Sorry for the families tremendous loss.

1. Explain how first aid could have helped here from your knowledge.

2. What could the person honestly do first that no one else already there could do assuming someone has the "first-aid" and stopped?

There's a reason why you don't see 10 fire trucks at an accident. It creates a clusterfu*k!

Perhaps the driver was elderly, disabled, had young kids that couldn't easily/safely be left in the car? Perhaps they asked if they could help but were told help was on its way? Perhaps it was obvious that there were plenty already trying to help?

You seem very quick to judge.

I'd like to think that anyone who was able and who had something to contribute would stop and offer assistance. I would not, however, expect every passing motorist on Ivy to stop and get out their car. That would be a recipe for chaos and would likely impede the emergency services from getting to the accident.
just sayin

You sir/madam are an idiot! The post you replied to stated "There were people trying to get the driver out of the car." What good could someone with no medical or first aide training do when there were already people assisting. If everyone who came thru stopped to "help", traffic would be so tied up that the people trained to help wouldn't be able to get to the victim to help.

Did you even read the story?? A 79 year-old woman was killed because she was evidently making a turn onto Tilman in front of an oncoming truck on Ivy Rd. Geez people, read the story before you start commenting...please.

Something tells me this will prompt VDOT to install a traffic light or lower the speed limit to 45 on 250. It's not a particularly dangerous intersection, but it is in the middle of a curve and if you aren't paying attention, you can get into trouble real quick.

with the blinding sun facing western drivers (and those trying to look west) before entering 250E from tilman, it is LONG overdue. there is obviously need, as there is a blinking yellow light already. you'd thnk with two schools on morgantown that this light would be a no-brainer.

I knew Mrs. Keith and she was a wonderful lady. I have not had the pleasure of seeing her for awhile but she was lovely. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

Oh please tell me we do not need to lower the speed limit or put traffic lights up.

What ever happened to people taking personal responsibility for their ability to handle a motor vehicle?

There is no reason that road should not be 55 and a light there would be ridiculous. Yeah, put cars into a dead stop right in the middle of a curve, that surely will not cause any problems.

To "people not like you" -

By the time I drove by the accident, there were about six cars pulled over, several people trying to help the victim and others comforting the person driving the truck. I heard sirens and saw police and fire personnel pulling up. I happen to be pregnant and on my way to pick up my other young child from school (but that probably doesn't matter to you, so whatever). Nonetheless, if there was a way for me to be helpful and not get in the way, I would have helped, but by the time I got there, there wasn't much more I could do but get in the way. Thanks for your concern for the victim, but your rush to judgment of me and tone are completely inappropriate.

The accident is the exception....not the norm for this intersection. Adding another light and having everyone stop is a HUGE WASTE OF FUEL!
