Just found out that our schools are academically unacceptable. What happened? Are we so worried about sports, band and cheerleading that we
forgot that our children need to get educated? Why are we not demanding
that academics come first? We have had numerous students from Charlotte
go on and get college degrees in the past-why is it not being pushed now? We ignore this problem now, it will only get worse. We as parents need to get involved in our schools for the future of our children.

Its because all the kids are acting like they know every thing and don't need school. And that there mothers will be there all the time to bail them outa jail and provide them with a home tha rest of there pathetic lives. And sending them to bigfoot isn't helping because all they do there is sleep and mess around.

I really don't think that extra curricular activities have anything to do with the lack of academic compliance. I think that the lack of discipline amongst these students is the issue. Maybe motivating these kids to become more involved is the key. Therefore there's more control of what the students are doing and where they're at, as well as grades being kept up so they can participate. Spirit in Charlotte has really gone down. But it won't change because even the role models of that town don't step up, it's like everyone has just given up! It's a very sad situation!

It is up to the students to do good and if you have to be motivated to do it then you will start something and not finish, you have to have the motivation already in you and it's up to you what you do with your life . The choices you make now will be the out come of your life. So don't go out there blaming parents teachers and coaches and school faculty. Parents can just do so much and so can teachers it's your life so it's up to you to do what is right, it's just like sex & drugs parents can tell you and show you right from wrong and what to do and what not to do but in the end it is all up to you. Parents & teacher can instill things in your brain when your a child but as you get older it's up to you, so come on and get it together and stop blaming other people for your mistakes or the students mistakes all they are is just excuses to fail, you want to blame teachers and parents go right ahead but you are wrong. Like I say if I have a 15 year old and I know goes to bed at 10:00pm because I go kiss him good night at his bed and then at 3:00am I get a call that his in an accident I go to jail and cps is all over because the parents are responsible for the juvenile. But what are parents to do to keep this from happening? We can't tie them to the bed because it's illegal but yet the parents are to blame for the child been out there. It's time to grow up and get with the program and stop blaming other people for teenagers mistakes. We all have a brain it all depends if we want to use it or not. Some use the excuse well when I was little well guess what your not little anymore , when you were little you didn't have a choice , well you do now, and now is when it counts so don't blame the town or the parents or the school faculty. Blame yourself or ourselves !

I disagree. When I was younger I would have never dreamed of sneaking out of my house!!! Nor would I have ever mouthed off to my parents or teachers or elders. My parents did that to me. I was blessed to have some of the greatest parents anyone could ask for. It all starts at home. If you set a good example for your children, they will make you proud. No doubt about it. My graduating class at Charlotte High School proved that. So many from my class went to college and have done so many great things in life already. I grew up around all of our parents and I know that we all turned out just like them. We made them proud. They pushed us everyday that we were in school, to be better to work harder to succeed and to to fight for opportunities that they never had. Parents need to own up to what their kids are doing in school. Quit denying it and set those kids straight. My Mamma would have and she did when it was needed. I've talked to some of the students of Charlotte ISD and even they will admit that they are out if control and can get away with it. It's so embarrassing to see ratings like this be published in the newspaper. I feel for the kids because with no backbone and someone to send them
in the right direction, they'll go nowhere in life.

Its a pity that Charlotte has become a place of destruction, drugs, underage drinking. This of course may have been around in the past but we have losers who choose to sell drugs to kids and nothing is done. Then it spills into the schools by having teachers who have no passion for teaching only for collecting paychecks. Someone needs to bring in the state to clean out the school and complete a fresh start. Things have to get better this is unacceptable!

I do agree it starts at home, but the drug dealers do not force you to do drugs, that's where what you were taught at home comes in. I am not defending drug dealers but if they offer you any say (no) but these kids have no love , no respect for parents, and no values, and no morals, it's up to them to choose right from wrong mommy & daddy can't and won't always be there to remind you not to do it, this the way I think just because your around crap you don't have to step on it and if you do that's what you get for been around crap. Your parents can instill morals and respect , but the kids today do not give a dam how hard mom & dad work just to put food on the table they take everything for granted, I am just saying because I have 6 of my own and I have 1 that just don't give a dam and they were all brought up and raised the same. It's up to you, Cada caveza es un differente mundo, I strongly believe this . God bless, It's up to us to make a difference in the world and in our lives.

To wrong: You make it seem like these kids should know how to controls themselves, but in reality that where the adult role models come in! Which are their parents, teachers, coached, etc. That's exactly the whole reasoning behind having extra curricular, to get these kids involved in their school. So you can't say that we cannot blame the other people because that's what they get paid for and that is the job of a parent. And you said, "so don't blame the town or the parents or the school faculty. Blame yourself or ourselves!" I"m not understanding if you are a teenager defending adults, or an adult yourself blaming yourself and which in that case you are blaming an adult. If you were a teacher you'd be blaming yourself as a parent, adult, and a teacher. You see an adult is Bottom line, the role model! Even teens with brains and the ability to make their own decisions need direction. I don't have a problem with my children, but I know if they're getting into trouble I would control it quickly. Where as the majority of parents in Charlotte don't. Most parents help their children get away with it. That's just the way it is. So I guess we can even say that parents need some straightening out to do! And that's one thing we can agree on, It begins in the home... most definitely!

I am an adult with 6 of my own . It begins at home. But if the child does not want to learn and is been taught then what? A lot of these student don't even have the word college in their vocabulary because they think they can't afford it or aren't smart enough. Another thing is in the past a lot of students go to college for a semester and don't pass and quit. A lot of these students think alright I am moving out of the house and can party drink and do what ever they are not allowed to do at home and then in a semester back home . Why because they think college is a fun and game thing. If they only knew what college cost and if it were coming out of their pockets they would take it seriously . But they don't . You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink. A lot of these students have never been out of Charlotte , but my question is how can a student go on and be a freshmen or a senior and not know how to read or write? The student knows !
The parents have to know !
The teachers have to know !
They students friends have to know !
But yet nobody does or says nothing. That is the problem today people do not want to get involved and we all fail our future. This is our future and the sad thing is people do not complain till it's to late. Then were all here talking about it. So in the end we are all to blame. I am a parent and i get involved in and with my children and when something is not right I am sorry I go to school and I make a nuisance of myself. Till something gets done. At the end we all lose because parents students and teachers and faculty forget what school is all about. God bless

Has there been any other news about our school? I would really like for us to be up to par with the surrounding area. There are so many rumors going around, I wish that they would let us know the future of our public school system.

There is a TEA monitor on the high school campus now. The real problem is that whether a school is academically acceptable or not is based on test scores only. Nothing else. English scores were fine (better than acceptable). It was math and science (from year before last) that caused the problems. Nothing will happen now as long as the test scores come up and the faculty and administration have been working for two years to make that happen.

Hey, folks, I know that it hurts to be unacceptable, but look at this, Pearsall ISD, with all the administrators and curriculum people at their district was also unacceptable. What a farce for them.

& I agree with "in the know" with a little harder work, the gaps will close between ethnicities.

In the know is right. The school is working hard on the problems and improvement is increasing. There have been two public hearings regarding this and no one showed up. And shane you don't know shit about what's going on. You must be a disgruntled employee that he got rid of.
