We love our dogs but we need to be more considerate of others. Stop taking those big dogs around other people and small dogs. Just because we love them doesn't mean everyone else does. People take their dogs to festivals and shopping and let them walk right up to your children and you. Just because you trust the dog and think his licking is cute doesn't mean everyone else does. If you have a dog, be responsible for it. Don't let it urinate on neighbors yards, don't let it loose to scare others and pick up after it. If you insist on owning a big dog that can turn on others be prepared to be responsible if it hurts someone.

While this is a tragedy and hopefully will be handled by the appropriate people, there are spaces for large dogs and small dogs for a reason. Is the owner of the small dog taking any responsibility for their lack of proper judgment by taking an eight pound dog into the large dog park?

Each owner is responsible for their own dog. If you cannot control your dog in every situation, then you should not put the dog in uncontrollable situations.

I have a dog aggressive dog. When I walk him, I always make sure that he does not get too near to strange dogs because he will try to attack. One day I had him out. I saw the other owner who had a lab, so I had my dog sit and stay waiting for the other dog to pass. The owner, who had his dog on a retractable leash, let his dog run up to my dog, at which point I had to pull my dog back. The other owner said that his dog was friendly. I told him that my dog was dog aggressive and that he could have attacked the other dog.

Knowing my dog, I was doing what I needed to do. The other owner was irresponsible in assuming that my dog was friendly and in allowing his dog to charge mine. There are too many dog owners out there like this guy.

The lesson: Never assume that your dog won't attack. Always keep your dog under control, especially out in public.

Oh, and by the way, my dog is AKC trained and "Good Dog" certified. The training deconditioned him somewhat, but he will still respond if he feels that he is being attacked.

The little bastard got what he deserved!! He should have known better than to go into that area of the park after dark.
