Come on!!! A convicted felon, refusing to leave, armed and shooting at the police. But, he was such a nice, innocent guy. Huh?
He doesn't trust the police, because he is a felon!!!
This guy obviously wanted to go down in a blaze of gunfire. Too bad the officer had to get wounded in the process.
Please do not try to defend the indefensible.

I misjudged you, Mongoloid. I thought the dead man was probably another one of those radical-right survivalist anti-taxers à la Ed & Elaine Brown, someone after your own heart, and that you would view the police action as a state intrusion into individual freedom. I thought the police should have shot the Browns the moment the latter showed a gun; I would have been wrong, since the final outcome was much better than in this new case of suicide-by-police-baiting.
