In Luke the bible says you can't be a disciple unless you hate your father, mother, etc.....yet here it says you only have to believe. Which is it?

It is good to quote scripture, but IMO it is better if you follow it up by explaining it in today's language so that those who don't understand it or who are new to the faith can understand it better and therefore put it to use. When you don't try to discuss what you are quoting, it makes it look to many like you are just trying to show off your ability to memorize scripture. Help people understand what you are saying by explaining it with love and they will know it's the love of Christ that motivates you to do what I do. Just a hopefully helpful suggestion.

<quoted text>It's your arrogance, your unwillingness to admit even the possibility that your calling people "stupid" displeased Christ (as does your arrogance) that shows your true Spirit. You can keep repeating the same phrase if you want, but a question for you is do you truly have compassion for the least, lost and last? You don't seem to want to discuss things with people and be understanding about their questions. Therefore, none of them are going to want to talk to you about their questions and therefore they won't approach you. But, I do know some people who profess Christianity are that way. They only want to be looked on as being right about everything, with no admittance that they could be wrong and they are quick to criticize non-Christians or even Christians like myself who don't agree with them. The Bible tells us to have a humble Spirit and, Stephen, you just don't. Come at questioning people with some compassion, not with lectures.

Your OPINION is not PROOF that your OPINION is TRUTH.

So do not just give me another one of your unproven opinions
as proof of your first unproven opinion.

<quoted text>My apologies to all those non-believers for the poor Christian witness of Stephen from San Antonio. Jesus wouldn't refer to anyone as stupid. He certainly may and does see the behavior and attitude of many people as being something similar to that and he does refer to some as being foolish in the Bible, but he never used the word stupid in the insulting, angry and arrogant way Stephen did. For those trying to understand better, good for you. If you are searching, that is good. I'll tell you that you'll never find all of the specific answers you may be looking for and to not worry about so many of the questions that involve human logic and such things. Believing in and following Christ is a spiritual things and it is useless to try to compare it to the secular world. I believe in Jesus because I want to believe in Him. And, I respectfully disagree with the poster who says don't question Jesus. I question Him all the time. I get frustrated with Him and even angry with Him at times. But, I truly believe that He understands when I am that way. He would rather I not be that way, but I believe He loves me so much that he understands where I am coming from and forgives me for behaving in that way. We're all imperfect, including Stephen, and if we are genuinely desiring to seek Him out and to please Him, He will forgive us when we ask for it. Please keep seeking, try to talk with other Christians you feel are genuine and not just using Christianity for some selfish purpose like trying to bring admiration from others to themselves or for political purposes or financial purposes. God values genuineness, gentleness, compassion and love and unfortunately most of my fellow humans who claim to be Christians are very harsh and unloving in the way they represent Jesus with their witness. Just remember that the path to heaven is narrow and the path to Hell is wide and that is true even in the Christian church. The Bible says you'll know true Christians by their fruits and lecturing non-believers and those who have questions without true loving concern for them is not God's way. Those who truly believe and unselfishly try to witness for Christ are in the majority, in my opinion, these days even in the church. May we all find peace thru God.

<quoted text>When your witness is not consistent with the witness of Christ, Stephen, and you are behaving as if it is, it is certainly something that I should let you know about. And, that is what I am trying to tell you. Just like my Christian brothers and sisters should tell me when my witness slips. In my opinion, the difference between genuine Christians and those who use Christianity for self serving means is that the genuine people will admit guilt when someone points out their shortcoming and pretenders will just try to make excuses for why their behavior is okay in a particular circumstance. It's called compromising. BTW, I am a Christian and have been one since Feb. 20, 1974, so I do try to walk my talk. Of course, I fail daily at it since I sin daily. Just come at questioning people with love, compassion and understanding and you lead more people to Jesus than by what you are posting on here.

An unsolicited unproven opinion is like bull dung to the ears of that which it falls upon.
